Default Needing Fiberglass help for xB project...

Im debating on what way we are going with our project. A superclean stock looking set up with lots of plexi, vinyl, and neon, or taking the tremendous time of doing fiberglass molds. Does anyone make and sell fiberglass enclosures for the xB, or is it all custom one off pieces?

Hey i am planning on doing a fiberglass enclosure myself. As far as off pieces I noticed someone had a piece for a 10' sub from Tweeter. It was for a XA but its possible they have pieces for XB as well.

PS I say make something from total scratch. atleast when you are done you have something very personal and unique. Just my 2 cents

Discount,

I found some very simple techniques to custom fab fiberglass enclosures on the net. They can be adapted to fit anywhere. There is no need to build molds. I can't find the link right now but I'll PM to you tomorrow.

fiberglass takes nearly no time at all. I mean, it takes time, but, it is pretty easy. Plexi is hard to work with, scratches easy, and is a pain to cut and flame polish (nless you do it regularly), so I would say glass is the way to go. Do a search on the www, there are more and more instrucitonal sites popping up daily.

http://www.the12volt.com has a fiberglass forum.

You're working on a show car, there's no reason not to go all out and fiberglass everything in sight.

Yea I think fiberglass is going to be fun to work with. Im pumped to get into it. Plexiglass does scratch easy but something I found is I purposely scratch it. I sand the plexiglass roughly so it has that frosted kind of look then i put lighting underneath it. I just like that look with some things. As someone else said there are some good tutorials on how to fiberglass. I have a few printed out for myself when I start.

As you know Todd, we make an enclosure for the xB. Fiberglass is a great material to use for trick and custom installs but its very difficult to work with for the beginner! If you haven't worked with fiberglass before and this is going to be a SEMA show car, I would suggest getting some experienced fiberglass installers to help! There is a lot to learn with fiberglass and beginners make ALOT of mistakes. The links posted on this thread shows many! You do not need to create molds to create a customized enclosure. Molds are primarily used for fiberglass products that will be mass produced to some extent, like our enclosures. If you want a source for fiberglass materials, check out www.selectproducts.com. They have all the materials needed for custom fiberglass work. They have just about any material needed for custom work actually! It can get $$$$ quick so be prepared to spend some change! If you or anyone here has any other questions regarding fiberglass fabrication, feel free to contact me! Good luck!

Keep Jammin,

--Ronnie
