Default orange vvt-i engine cover

I swear somewhere I saw an engine cover in orange that was like the stock black or the carbon fiber aftermarket one. It has the "vvt-i" in raised lettering and all, but I'll be d@mned if I can find it anywhere anymore.

Anyone know what I'm talking about, or am I thinking of one of the colored aftermarket Honda valve covers?

Any info or links would be welcomed!

Yep, it's just paint. You have to do it yourself, or have a body shop do it. You can't buy them yet.

Stylis, or anyone else, how involved is it to paint something like that and do it the right way (as far as time, money, other obsticles)? Never worked with auto paint before, but that orange engine bay looks real tight, wouldn't mind something like that for myself.

What I did was clean the cover with Simple Green (to get oils and dirt off it), then I used Duplicolor's Auto Paint. I put many light coats (took 2 mini cans). Then I used a silver sharpie to fill in the text and logo (masking off the text was too much of a _____ for me). On the xA, though, the grill is open. A rock hit my engine cover recently and there is a chip. Oh well...

Some people sanded their engine cover before painting. Some also used paint adhesive so the paint would stick better...

I sanded mine with 600 grit emery cloth then I cleaned it with alcohol. Taped out the letters and symbol and sprayed many light coats of Dupli Color Chevy engine orange.
Check out my profile :D

Thanks everyone for the tips. Doesn't sound like it's much different than painting anything else.

dinkjs, I'm on the north side, off 96th and Keystone.

it shouldn't be a problem. but if your car explodes, it won't be warrantied...lol, j/k. You shouldn't have a problem. At least you put plastic primer on. My engine cover got messed up. The mechanic fubared mine when I got my oil change. I don't know if I should sand it back down and repaint or just get another one...

thanks for the tip.
I'll let the wife drive first in case it explodes...
...and I think the mechanic needs to buy you a new one.

Personally I would use high temp paint if you want it to last. It is suppose to hold up stronger against heat and time. You could get some touch up paint from a dealership or on the internet. Just a thought...

Any of the 500 degree "engine enamels" will work great. The heat load isn't a problem, so really any flexible spray paint should hold up fine. I mention "engine enamel" because a) it is acrylic enamel and lays out really wet and shiny and holds gloss best of all spray bomb paints. And b) it comes in a very hot orange among several other colors.

BTW, Krylon is now mass selling "fusion" spray paint guaranteed to bond to plastic. If it works on molded milk bottle plastic patio furniture, it should be surer bet yet on a Scion valve cover. And "32 colors" to choose from. Can't beat that for convenience. And you know, Krylon junk sprays out smooth and sweet as a rule. I expect Fusion holds to their long held quality standard for easy no-drip spraying.

Default Engine Cover

I had mine done at a friend's body shop. It was going to be little more than $50, but he did it for free since it was small. Looks awesome, if you wanna see it, email me and I'll email it back.
