Takes a while, since they're coming from china, and I have to go back and forth with the design. Months...

In the meantime, I've got some orange film that gives a great orange color when put around the white cathodes.

Let me know if you want to try it out.

Default Cold Cathode

My sis just got an 06 tC, and she really wants blue interior lighting. I used traditional neon lights in my Blue Tiburon, but Cold Cathode seems the way to go now from what I have read so far :D. Is there anything you can recommend about wiring these Ozonium I will more than likely order a kit from you soon. Any differences that I should know comparing these to just neons. Its pretty much 2 wires right power and ground, and if I want to switch the neons just tap the power somewhere in between right. Also, where can I get one of those Add a fuse thingy's, and wat kind of switch do you recommend for a OEM look, and any suggestions on where they should be mounted. Thanks for all your help in advanced.

You should always use a fuse. It depends what amp fuse you are currently using. A 3 amp fuse is fine for at least 5 or maybe 6 cathode kits.

how many cold cathodes could i run if i tapped into my cig ligher???

and by kits you mean single tubes????

le me know... i learned so much from this post already...

Cold Cathodes are much better than neons. Cheaper, brighter, smaller...

It is power and ground. 2 wires...

Oznium sells an OEM switch right here that would work great for the cathodes: http://www.oznium.com/gsw-45

I've got a scion "kit" if you want that is plug and play, pre wired if you want.

You can get add-a-fuse at some car part stores.

The cig lighter is maybe 15 amps, you could probably run 30 kits, or 60 tubes.

By kits, I mean 1 transformer powering 2 tubes.

The math on the new cathodes seems to be different.. 4 kit's will blow 5 amp fuses (at least in my car).. but off the cigerette lighter you should still get enough light to blind you..

If you wanted to put a large number of cathodes in the car, you're much better off running a dedicated power wire from the battery. If you're using 15 amps of power from the cig lighter, then you can't plug anything else into it or the fuse would blow.

I don't know how many amps it is, maybe 10, maybe 15. You can certainly run more cathode kits on it that you probably want to.

How much is this plug and play kit, and what's the big difference really. How would it work if say I wanted to use 4 cathodes, would I have 2 transformers, or is there any way to run them off one. It would be much easier to ground and power one than 2 seperate pairs of wires. Can you just tap the power and ground of one kit, with the corresponding wires of another kit so you don't have to power and ground 2 different sets. Thanks for all your help oznium, you have been a great source of info. so far.

$50 for the plug and play kit, includes 1 cathode kit (2 tubes), add a circuit, oem switch, wiring soldered and crimped

You can run a maximum of 2 tubes on one transformer.

You can tap into the corresponsing wires

Default fusing a cathode

i read your intresting article on installing cathodes i didnt do it that way but your way is also a good way. i liked it.

i have two transformers with three cathodes 2(cathodes) on 1(tranny) and 1(c) on 1(t) i do have an in line fuse but its those glass ones. whats the diiference between the glass fuse and the wedge fuse?

for those cathodes i have them on an 3amp glass fuse and they popp pretty fast and i was thinking of going to an 6 amp fuse but changing the wire so i can insert a wedge in line fuse holder.

on other cathodes i dont have any fuses and they seem to work fine but i guess i will eventually have to i think i will put a 5 amp fuse on all of them.

what about strobes will a 5 amp fuse work for them?

if anybody can give electrical wireing terms made easy plain english i will appricate it well guys thank you for your time

peace

Question:

Lets say I have 2 kits (4 cathodes). If I were to tap into the cigarette lighter for power, would I still need a fuse? I'm confused when it comes to anything electrical.

And if I were to have the cathode fade in and out like the dome light, will that shorten the life of the cathodes?

Thanks!

ok i got it!

for two CC one 1 tranny requires a 1 amp fuse.
two tranny's three CC requires a 1.5 amp fuse.
So for every one tranny and one CC is a .5 amp fuse

so do the math
, one CC .5 amp two 1 amp three 1.5 and so on.

have questions please feel free

If I want the lights to come on when I flip the oem switch, no matter if the car is ruinning or off, which fuse should I add-a-fuse too. Also if the oem switch is in the off position is power still being used. I lack any electrical knowledge. Also Mr. oznium man do you have a link to the scion kit on your website. I could'nt find it. one more q will using the music interface make the cc die faster.

You could play around with a few of the fuse locations until you find one that is constant on.

But I don't reccomend it, I'd say make it so you have to have the keys in the car. Otherwise you might leave the cathodes on overnight by mistake.

Don't have a link to the scion wiring kit. Put a note in with the order if you want it.

Music interface shouldn't really affect the life of the cathode kit.

I want to do my footwells. I have seen many xa/xb how too's but not a single tc one. Where did you run the wires, and hang the drivers side tube.
Does the center console need to be removed.
FYI I am using add-a-fuse, and a scion rocker switch.
I am completely horible at automotive electrical work, and any help would be appreciated.
