I wouls say no because you would dramatically change the flex characteristics. This would be an even bigger no-no for tweeters.

You can paint them but you can say goodbye to sound quality. Speakers are made out of light but durable material and they move sound by moving back and forth. Painting them will add weight and destroy your setup.

^^^^ The man has it right.

DON"T paint your speakers. That's pretty ghetto to begin
with.

Oh wait, I should clarify.

you *can* paint the magnet, and the basket (metal parts)
but NOT the cone, coil, spider, surroud (anything soft and
flexable)

You have to be careful about painting the baskets some of the new subs use the basket to disapate heat

basically what they all said.

the basket would be fine in 99% of the cases. i really wouldnt worry if you wanted to. it looks classy IMO if it matches. i would do it if you reverse mount subs. speakers though.... naw i wouldnt

Actually adding a small amount of weight to the cone of the speaker will not hurt. I have seen speakers painted, and have even done so for some customers, and nothing bad has happened. However there are some speakers that I would not paint, anything over the $300 range, only cause these will be more of an sound quality speaker.

If you want to paint, find something with a poly or treated paper cone, and only these.

Why do you want to paint a set of speakers in the first place? I find that black, which most speakers come in, looks the best.
