Pioneer Avic D1

the first harness posted above was for a toyota amplified system (avalon, 4runner, etc.) I think its model number is 1783 or something, the second harness is the correct one model number 80/70 -1761 made by metra. If you are installing a double din use the factory brackets if not buy the dash kit for single din. Installation on a normal radio should take under 45min, for the double din navigation maybe an hour and 20 min, and thats doing it slowly. Circuit City and Best buy should do the nav install for somewhere around 100bucks or less, pay anything more than that and ask them if they will use a lubricant so your butt won't hurt so much when they are done

I wonder why the correct harness (70-1761) comes with 2 of them? And what the other one is used for...

No I didn't get those gaps filled.................. I don't know if I should have or not............. the way the guy asked me! First he was like, they might have to cut it, depending on whether it was an old D1 or a newer one, I was like What? (they were talking amongst themselves-installers) but he came out later and was like don't worry it fits!
Next the other guy wanted me to see how it looked and how it doesnt fit along the sides and "Is this okay with you?"
I should go out side and post a pic, but I never posted my own pics on here only from other web sites.................... I have a digital phone and those pics are okay, but not for details that I know you guys need. So I won't post. But either way its not snug on the sides.................. he said I could come back in a couple days if I don't like the way it looks. So I was like whateva.......Leave it like that! I don't think I mind, but I'm gonna give it a couple of days

Okay I went back there and. its saturday, the installers were busy, and I was like forget it. I like it the way it is. Little gaps on the side dont matter, you dont see it in the dark anyway. And if I want to remove it to run some wires if I hook some sort of dvd audio source it won't be permanently glue together
#34
yeah but not flush anymore............. I didn't like it at all..........Couple weeks later, you get used to it, cause you know what's under it and your like, would rather have it open anyway.

Hey pm me, sorry that i didnt replied earlier... The d1 is very easy to install into the scion. Just the harness and its plug and play. Also there are gap fillers made by toyota that will cover up the spaces. If you need the part number i will post it up as well. To get it flush you need to drill the holes on the bracket a little farther back. Also did you bypass the parking sensor yet? Sorry if my sentences dont make sense its like 8 in the morning and just go back from drinking for christmas =P merry christmas everyone .

Okay,...cool. Yeah, its installed. The installer did a thing where when the screen loads up it says improper install ground brake something. But the way it is now. I think that there is also a sensor someplace else. Why?
Because, I cannot enter in addresses while driving.
I can enter in addresses as long as the car is going less than 5 miles per hour.
I don't like this but then again it is a safety feature I appreciate cause I sometimes watch the screen more than the road.
Am I correct, in saying that this is because of the unit and how it tracks your speed per mile, and with this feature telling me my average speeds, its also telling the unit that is in motion?
Probably

Blah .. its 1:45am, I have to be at work at 7:30a and I have too much Dew in my system. Because of this I will post a quick how to for future reference.
Tools Needed.
Phillips head screwdriver (0 and 2)
8mm socket and handle.
Wire cutters.
Soidering Iron and Soider
Electrical Tape
Step 1. Remove all contents from the AVIC-d1 box. You should see, the unit, trim, manuals, pink wire, purple wire, wiring harness, and rca connectors.
Step 2. Connect RCA connectors to white plug on rear of unit.
Step 3. Get a 70-1761 (metra) harness and color match wires. Strip back about 3/4 of an inch on both radio harness and vehicle harnesses. Cross, twist, soider and tape. Do not connect any orange wires, as you will not need them.
Step 4. You will see a sea green colored wire with a tag. This is your parking brake wire. On xBs if you do not feel like running under the carpet, just ground this wire. This is illegal, but it is also a quick fix. Plus the internals of the unit will prevent you from watching video and playing with the unit over 5mph.
Step 5. Remove dash and radio. Remove screw from behind both the Temp and the Direction *****. Then pull from center heating vents to remove the dash. Unclip the three plugs on rear of dash. Take Screwdriver and remove the 4 screws from the radio brackets. Be sure not to lose these. Pull out radio and unplug antenna and harness from rear.
Step 6. Take #0 Screwdriver and remove 8 tiny screws from trim around AVIC-d1 unit that hold on the cage. Remove cage from unit. Then Take #2 and remove 4 screws from black brackets on side of unit.
Step 7. Take 8mm socket and remove the 8 screws/bolts from side of stock radio brackets. Mark left and right. Take brackets and swap to AVIC-d1 unit. Line up holes on bracket and unit and bolt into place.
Step 8. Run GPS antenna. locate a good spot either external or front dash for the GPS antenna. Secure it down. Run the wire under the dash and up to radio location.
Step 9. Connect VSS wire. Take the pink wire and connect it to the Speed Sense wire. This is a Purple/white back of the fuse box on a 18 pin plug. So remove the fuse cover to try and find it.
Step 10. Reinstall Radio and dash. Just do the reverse of radio removal. Reconnect Radio harness, hide the RCAs, Plug in the antenna and GPS wires. Rescrew unit back inplace. Reconnect heater plugs, slide top end of dash inplace first then push down to the bottom so it all snaps back in.
Step 11. Turn it on and play with it.
This whole thing took me about 45 minutes to install. But I also left off the VSS. My GPS antenna is on the very front of the dash on the left hand side. There is a gap on either side of the unit and I am lookin into double din brackets to fill this space. Going to call and xBer at Metra later today to see if they have anything.
I do know how to "fix" the unit so that it will work while driving, but I will not post it here. It voids the warrenty and violates laws.
I am an audio installer and sales so if you have any questions let me know.

Almost done with the install with my xA, one wire to go. The nasty pink wire, I looked behind the fuse box could not find the purple/white 18 pin anywhere, found 14 pin and 16 pin (didn't know my body could bend the way it did). Is the wiring for the xB same as the xA?
