Project Digital Dash, Part II (56k advisory)
Template by Trenchcoat Auto Aesthetics
51mm hole saw + shaky hands = perfect 52mm hole
Nothing much back there. Just some insulation and the WIRING HARNESS for the instrument cluster. (That was close.)
Almost done (still working on sending unit for third gauge)

I've been wanting to install some gauges for a while but a couple things have been stopping me.
a)where are you routing your wires to get to the engine? In my old 64 pontiac I just drilled through the firewall but theres a big difference here. I dont want to damage anything.
2)Where are you tapping in to connect your sensors?
I've been waiting for someone to complete one of these and share their knowledge. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the comments everyone! :D
Futureicon: It seems there's an expensive or critical piece of something attached to every square inch of the firewall. Most people seem to cut a slit in the big rubber grommet where the main wiring harness passes through the FW on the driver's side, then route a piece of wire loom through that. I'm going to have the audio guy run a few extra wires when I get some bumps and beats installed later this month.
ikonXone: There was no thread titled Part I ... that was just the semi-notorious prototype install (notorious around Cerritos KK, at least) with gauges and wires hanging all over the place.
General: The gauges are the red LED series from Cyberdyne. The manufacturer STILL has no Web site but Jegs.com has detailed specs. (J.C. Whitney is slightly cheaper though.)
The gauge on the far left is a voltmeter. The center gauge is an air-fuel gauge -- I tapped into the signal wire in the ECU harness. Pics of that got posted to another thread that I can't find at the moment
The third gauge is water temperature ... I've hacked up a virgin cooling hose (~$15 from the dealership) and installed a 1 3/16" water temp sender adapter from AC Autotechnic. The stock water temp sender is hooked into the ECU and I don't know if there's a way to use that.
The stock oil pressure sensor is just a switch that's wired straight into the idiot light. I'm sure it can be replaced w/o much trouble, but it's not easy to get at.
