Default Question on 2005 xB wire under Rear Bumper

Hello,
I'm from Wisconsin and its been one hell of a winter so far. Was driving the other day and noticed a pinging sound coming from the rear of my car.
Get out and there's a black wire hanging from under the left side of my rear bumper encased in a 5 pound block of ice. Somehow the ice got wrapped around it and dunno if it snapped the wire or what.

Anyone know what this wire is? it looks like it wraps all the way around the bumper and goes up through the bottom of the rear hatch. Very hard for me to tell as its -30 degrees outside and the car is so low cant really see.
Will try to get pictures up tomorrow if that will help.

Thanks for any help.

Kinda hard to see but first pic has a red line I drew to show the path of the wire. And also a red circle around where I ziptied what looks to be a white jumper to a part of the inside of the bumper.

2nd pic is a close pic of the jumper ziptied. Long black wire.

Thanks.

Thanks tanak - looks like both of my rear blinkers still work. Not sure about side markers. Hopefully im still under bumper to bumper but kinda doubt it seems like a design flaw though. Underside of bumper should be curved up so this wouldnt happen, or wires better concealed.

I was wondering about that last time getting the car fixed.

The bumper was off and I saw that little plug dangling off the rear, I almost though it was an OEM ground effects light relay. guess not..

haha

Yea, unfortunately after Toyota looking at it, appears the harness plug broke. So the harness part costs about 25 bucks. No point replacing it if its just gonna happen again though. Maybe in the summertime I will, but I kinda really don't care about the rear side marker, especially if its just gonna happen next winter

Thanks to all that replied though, you've been a great help. <3 Scionlife forums.

I don't see why the plug would break unless someone broke it disconnecting/reconnecting it. Maybe it was in an accident or the bumper cover has been removed and reinstalled for some other reason?
