Radar Detector - Hide Wiring in Sunroof Control Panel
I've had my tC for 10 months and ONLY driving on vacation to Colorado did I get pulled over....twice. That silly popo thought my tint was factory...uh..no, this is illegal in Indy, shhh. I'm just glad they didn't catch me in Kansas driving 120mph, that would've been a nasty ticket and/or loss of driving privileges! But, no tickets! However, I went ahead and purchased a radar detector and want to wire it into my sunroof controls. My boyfriend has a '97 Grand Prix that he did this to and it works perfectly. Anyone dug into this panel yet? Is it easy to get into and work on? I've done a bit of research and can't find any detail.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated as we plan on doing this soon. We've done some work in the dash and those panels just pop off and on. We discovered the rotating temperature gauge is a compression fitting, GREAT FUN!
Thanks.

i think he means just wiring the power to the moonroof. the radar will be placed somewhere else where it is operating to its highest potential.
lemme know how this goes because im tired of the radar wire goin up the console from the lighter.

The detector itself will remain attached to the front windshield. It just means the power cord will wire into the roof of the car versus down the front.

Thanks ScionDad that will be very helpful. I just hope it's easy access. My boyfriend's fit very nicely into his panel and runs when the car is powered, kind of nifty I thought. The detector remains up on the shaded part of the windshield, camouflaged from oncoming traffic.

I got a power cord that fit the power plug on the detector and was not coiled up. Mounted the det on the dash with velcro (so as not tempt the thieves, remove in public parking) and ran the cord down the dash and windshield crease (use a piece of cardboard edge to push it between windshield and dash) running towards the passenger side of the dash.
Remove the glove box, then the plastic black piece that is a tray (you will see it when glove box is removed). Drop the wire down the corner of the windshield, dash and passenger side pillar and the wire will fall right thru.
Then I just ran it to the cig lighter with a 1 amp fuse. This is a switched line, so on and off with the acc. Can't see the wire.

So we installed the radar detector Monday night. The small part of wiring that shows runs up the windshield into the roof of the car. I was even able to keep the cord and coil it up inside the mechanical housing area. We bought a female adapter at Radio Shack, cut the cord to it and wired it into my sunroof controls. At first, the sunroof controls only worked if you held the button down as opposed to pressing once to open. After continued use, they began to work as normal. Pics to be posted soon!
