Sorry but that is total BS! The detector does not have a sleep mode yes the screen is blank when no radar is detected while running on AA batt. If you have the optional power cord the screen will steadly show what mode the detector is in. I have had it two years now and haven't had a ticket since I had it.

Im not saying its a bad detector. Dont get me wrong, escort makes great products, probably the #1 leading radar detector company out there. The article was just something I came across, so I just wanted to let you know.
