Default Sirius tuner installed on AVIC N1 (mini-review)

Hey guys,

This was discussed a little while ago, but I just wanted to give my thoughts. Just installed my SIR-PNR (?) installed last night. It was about $90 bucks and took all of about 20 minutes. I daisy-chained my cd changer and the sirius tuner to the brain of the AVIC, slapped the antenna on the dash, and it fired right up to the demo channel. Then I spent about 2 minutes online and it was activated.

At first I was diggin' the sound quality coming from the channels, but once you listen for a while and a/b compare with CDs, you realize that this is heavily compressed/encoded audio. Certain channels (Classical, for instance) really sound swishy and distractingly artifacted. I'm sure this is something that both XM and Sirius will be improving over time, as better compression algorithms/encoders are developed. That being said, the variety is astounding and overall I am very pleased. I love the local traffic and weather and all the news, etc. as well. My initial opinion is that I would recommend this to just about anyone, with the caveat that there is room for improvement on the audio quality side.

Anyway, thats all for now.
