Static electricity!!!!!!!!!!
Try this for size,
Every, I mean EVERY. time I exit my 2004 Xa I get anything from a little to alot of annoying static shock when I push the door closed. I have the standard interior, live in So-Cal, dress in jean's and collared shirt's to shirt and tie. I might have on running shoe's to leather sandal's, alway's same result.
Any idea's? I might stop shutting my door's!!!

when you get out of the car try to touch the window or the metal part of your door before and as you get out just put your hand on a metal part or the window that should do the trick. My xb used to do that to me annoyed the hell out of me, my corolla did it to before I got smart about it.

So after starting this thread this morning I have been in and out of my car 5 time's. 2 times before I got out, with the door open I put my left hand down and touched the door frame while I was still seated. The two time's mention, NO SHOCK!!!!the other three time's MUCHO SHOCK. I shall persue this a few more day's, hopefully complying with the "touch the metal frame while seated" method and report back. You all can try it too. Mayhap's it work's and we can all stop looking like moran's ( not that there is anything wrong with moron's [ am I PC?]). Perhap's the aforementioned method, now known as TTMFWS, help's discharge the static build up.
Let the research continue........

I don't generally get shocked by my xB for some reason, but my passengers generally do - maybe it's cause I let them get out first and ground things, eh? :D
(I also usually have my hand on a painted metal part of the door as I get out...)
At least our cars don't loose their minds and forget how to be a car when we shock each other...

Static electricity spark between driver and vehicle can cause turn signals, headlamps, and windshield wipers to malfunction, possibly resulting in crash.
Models: 79,701 pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles.
What to do: Have dealer "reflash" the instrument cluster. For information, call DaimlerChrysler at 800-853-1403.

Get out of the car without touching any metal. Shut the door by touching only the handle (which is plastic, and which is better for the shine on your paint anyway). No shock.
(PS - don't do this to pump gas - the car and yourself will still be charged. Touch something metal, and the car, before pumping.)

If you touch a metal it will ground it and stop. The same thing happened to me for about a month, some of the nastiest shocks ive ever felt and i used to lick electrical cords. Also use your fingernails, when the charge travels through the nails you wont feel a thing.
P.S. I never really licked an electrical cord just saying ive been shocked perrty bad be for and the ones i got for the xb where bad.
