Default Stereo Backside

Does anybody have a picture or diagram of the backside of the standard Pioneer Stereo on the tC?

I want to put in my amplified Bazooka subwoofer and wanted to know if there are standard RCA type pre-amp outputs on the back.

Thanx, and have a Great Holiday Everybody!!

P.S.: My Christmas present to myself this year was a 5-speed manual Black Sand Pearl Scion tC with rear lip spoiler and TRD lowering springs just installed yesterday!!

Hey bspearl..

there aren't any standard rca outputs on the back of the stock radio but scion has some for the subwoofer. It's an wire harness adapter that provides a pair of rca outputs.. someone here showed it before, was selling it on ebay.. it's the same one the dealer has for the subwoofer.. i wonder if you couldn't use that for an amp instead of the sub?

hey Merry Christmas to you as well.. :D

Um... I don't think that's quite right. Scion sells a VSE subwoofer and amp, but the plugs are not RCA anywhere - the harness has that sort of rectangular connector on both ends. One end plugs into the back of the sub enclosure and the other daisy-chains with the existing stereo plug and goes into the back of the head unit. I do think someone makes some sort of RCA adapter that's been posted before (check ebay, etc.) but it isn't part of the stock harness AFAIK.

True, that "scion" RCA adapter you see on Ebay is a generic part with a scion wrap logo on it. iowagary is right, the Scion sub is not RCA anywhere.

Thanks guys. Actually, I've decided to tap into my rear speaker wires to get the signal to my amplified subwoofer. The sub takes hi-level inputs and presents high impedance so that the receiver won't burn out.

Question: I need to run a 12 volt line directly from the battery, as recommended by Bazooka. Does anybody know if there is a convenient hole/tunnel through the fire wall somewhere through which I can run my wire?

Thanks

On the passenger side firewall, there is a large black grommet . It has a lot of wires running through it. If you drop the glove box you will be looking right at the ECM (it's labeled). If you drop the ECM from the mounting position (2 10mm bolts) you will have easy access to this grommet from the inside.
I ran a 2 ga wire through there over the weekend. What I did was push the wire as far into the grommet as I could from under the hood. I went under the dash and felt where the wire was pressing against the grommet. With a razor blade, I made an incision just large enough to let the wire through. Make sure you cut AWAY from the factory harness.
You want to fit to be tight so it maintains it's protective properties. I took some pictures and I will post them tomorrow.

hey BSPearl you actually would want to tap your front speakers for the sub for some reason the people at pioneer decided to make the front speakers push most of the base so you will get better sound out of a sub if you tap it out of the front speakers just a heads up

Thanks The0ckid82!

Hey, I know that the front speakers are bigger than the rear ones. Are you sure that the Pioneer deck front output signal is actually equalized to pump out more base? I was thinking that the reason the front speakers sound better in the base frequencies is just because they are bigger than the rears.

Thanks. I already put in my subwoof, which was enough of a hassle. I don't relish the idea of opening up the rear panels again, "untapping" from the rears, and tapping into the fronts. My ten inch amplified bazooka seems to do fine with the rear signal. I do appreciate the info though. Thanks again.

Since you appear to be an audio guru; if I want to replace the front speakers, how do I do it? Are the upper door tweeters connected to the door panel speakers or directly to the Pioneer unit? Should I keep the door tweeters? If so, how do they hook up?

where are you from ? unfortunately i havent had the opertunity to rip apart a tc yet soon hopefully but i know i the xb you basically have to destroy the stock speaker unless you plan on useing a custom spacer if you just destroy the old speaker you can mount on the spacer and as for your question on the tweeters they just spit the wire half way down so that it runs to both speakers and theres just a "bass Blocker on it to seperate the bass and highs if youve got any other questions lemme know ill try and help ya out as much as possible
