SUBS INSIDE OUT?

SUBS INSIDE OUT?
when subs are installed in a box inside out where you can see the spider, is there a difference in sound? can you do that to any sub?
what about when you have a sub in a box, than you put another sub on top of that so they are both facing ea. other......? what is the purpose of that???

It sounds different. I'm sure part of that has to do with the difference in volume (sub mounted normally would take up more volume due to spider/magnet/etc) I think you can do that with any sub...but would imagine it has more to do with looks than sound.
As far as subs facing each other, IDK. I'd think it would have some sort of cancellation problems, but not for sure. Try www.bcae1.com or www.the12volt.com or www.sounddomain.com

This is called a sealed Isobaric enclosure. Basically it requires about half the airspace inside the box as what is normally required. It makes both woofers act as one.

Yes, the wiring would have to be reversed on the second woofer.
It really doesn't "thump" harder, and is less efficient. This type of enclosure would be great in a situation where space is critical.

if the two woofers are firing against each other (cone to cone)
it is a isobaric setup, and one of the woofers needs to be out of phase
you can also build an isobaric with the woofers in line and wired in phase, kind of like a square tube
the reason for an isobaric is you can use an enclosure about 1/3 smaller than both subs would take in a sealed enclosure
if you build a normal enclosure and just mount the woofer upside down it should sound the same
most do this to show off chrome baskets or just change up the way the setup looks
according to many articles the speaker moves the same amount of air forwards and backwards
this is what sound is AIR....
the basket should not affect the way the air is moved and the sound should stay the same

there is alot of info on Isobarik setups here>>>http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/isobarik/index.html
as far as having the subs inverted, it won't really do anything for sound...if you have a 10" sub that requires a whole cubic foot of air space, and the interior dimentions of the pre-fab box you got at wal-mart is 12x12x12, you can invert the sub and get the perfect box volume.....whereas if you loaded it normally, the sub would eat up some of the air space....also, if you invert your subs, wire them in reverse polarity....

i can't tell you if your subs are in or out of phase but if you switch the wires back and forth i can tell you which is which...my HU switches too, and the reverse is a little better for heavy double bass...like Avenged Sevenfold...
