Tachometer Problems

Tachometer Problems
My tach is acting crazy. It only starts after a couple hours of driving, and then slowly the indicated rpm's will creep up, as much as 1000 rpm over where it actually is. Please note, this is not the engine actually increasing rpm, just the indication the tach is giving.
Yesterday, I stopped after it was up to a 1000 rpm high and shut the engine down. The tach was still indicating 1000 rpm. It stayed that way several minutes, so I continued on. Later, after it had been shut down for an hour or so, it was back to normal.
Any reports out there on similar problems?

No, unfortunately it has 42K now. I'm really not worried about it, as I know it is just a mechanical problem with the gauge itself, not an actual engine or tranny problem.
I was just wonderibg if anyone else had a similar problem or if there had possible been some type of factory tech note or tip issued.

Re: Tachometer Problems
Did you ever find out what the problem was?
I had same problem yesterday on an '05 xA. Tach went about 1000 over normal. Also gas gauge pegged to FULL. Saw this while driving on interstate at 70 mph. Pulled into rest stop turned car off, waited about 10 minutes and restarted. Gauges now read where they should.
Would like to know what caused this. I have extended GOLD warranty and 65K highway miles on it. Never modified. This is the FIRST problem I have ever had with the car.
Thanks,
Andy
