electricity runs in a cycle. you can't just tap the "power wire" you need both the 12V+ and the ground. if you tap just one wire, it's not gonna do anything. use a multi-meter to test which is which...

so your sayin that i connect the positive from neons to the positive on the relay, connect the power to the power on the relay, and then just connect both negative wires together and ground the relay ?
im sorry if im getting a little repetetive, i just dont want to mess up when im doin this.

You do not need to tap into the negative wire (ground) of the cig lighter. You can ground to any appropriate grounding point. I have tapped behind my lighter for gauges, digital compass, and mp3 player dc power source. I have not used the cig lighter ground for most of them and ran a ground directly to the chassis of the car. The location I like to use is a designated grounding point that is located right below the cockpit fuse box. You can use the cig lighter ground, but if it is more convenient to ground elsewhere it is no problem. A cheap and effective voltage tester can be had for like $5. This will let you know for sure which to tap into.
FYI, for the xB, the black wire with thin white stripe is positive wire and the white wire with thin black stripe is negative.

SUCCESS!!!! hehe... Ey guys! I just wanna show my new mod... CD storage light with a switch....

take note... the power that runs through the CIG LIGHTER only powers up when the key is on the ACC or ON position... so if you guys try to switch the lights on and the light doesn't come out, plug your key into the ignition and switch to ACC or ON....if the lights still doesn't come on... check the T-Taps (Scotchlock) if it really tapped the wire. I had a t-tap that clamps on wire sizes 14-18 and the first attempt, it didn't cut through the plastic cover of the wire so I thread the wire a littlebit and crimped the T-tap again.... then the problem was solved.
Alright folks! have a NICE Holiday!!!!
