Default tC carputer! (updated w/ more pics!)

Just getting started, but I think I'm doing pretty well.

2005 Scion tC

Stereo
Stock Pioneer double-din CD/MP3 -- relocating to glovebox

Carputer
IBM T22 laptop in port replicator under passenger seat
Rewired power button, moving to armrest
LogJam Toyota Aux Input converter (Link)
4 port USB self powered hub
7" Dynamix 706 touchscreen VGA (Link)
Garmin GPS18 USB using NRoute Software Link
MediaCar frontend using Brushed Metal Scion skin
Using a power inverter for now for the laptop

Notes
Was a little nervous about ripping my console apart, but I wound up not having to cut it apart barely at all. Removed the Scion radio door contraption and placed the LCD in it's headrest shroud. Cut off the bottom of the shroud so the top of the screen could be viewed through the existing hole in the console (didn't want to cut the hole bigger). Used picture hanging wire to secure screen to console (it's in there very very tight ) Going to gather the power button wires and probaby put them in some heatshrink tubing to make it easier to work with.

It's amazing what you can get done when you're bored and it's snowing like hell outside! Going to extend the wires for the headunit and stick it in the glovebox, hope to make some sort of housing for it... anyone know of a "universal" plastic housing that'd encase a double-din stock radio? Comments welcomed!

I was pondering doing something similar earlier today (snowed in as well). I don't think I would like the relocated stereo. How do you plan on operating the volume and such while you're driving. I would rather buy a used aftermarket HU with all the aux inputs and an IR remote. What's your plans for an operating sys? and what's the deal with you're FE never heard of it.

I'm probably going to wind up getting an aftermarket headunit, the stock unit doesn't fit well in the glovebox. Where do you think I should put the new headunit? I'm using XP for the OS. The frontend is MediaCar (http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=36 and the skin is one I found at this site: http://febsperanza.3plast.com/ The guy made skins for all kinds of car makes.

i am starting to build a carpc myself. I am going to be putting the monitor when the stock hu goes. then i will get an aftermarket hu and probably install it in the auxillary box somehow. i will have the computer itself in the trunk somewhere and i will have it wired so that when i turn on the car it boots up and when i turn the ignition off it shuts down the computer safely, or it goes into hebernate or standby(whichever one i prefer). then i will have a wireless keybpeard and maybe a mouse for the people in the back. The monitor will be touchscreen. I am very excited. If you have any suggestions let me know please.

yea that would be awesome to put a mac mini in my car... anyways sweet idea. Personally though I don't have the use for something like that... I really on need tunes on the road from my ipod, but if I wanted to get something to store movies and games I'd get a modded xbox that could copy it to its hard drive and not have to keep up with discs and also I would save money doing it that way most likely... but that's just me.

you can run that line behind the headliner very easily if you want it to look more stock.
