Double Din refers to the size.....most aftermarket HU's are single din (about 2.5" tall and standard width).....Double din is the size of the whole opening in the tC dash....the stock pioneer is double din.....

kenwood also has a double-din touchscreen line called excelon.
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/excelon/excelonHome.jsp
the eclipse AVN and the kenwood excelon are the two that most members here have replaced their stock HU with. me, i can't afford one so ill be getting a panasonic CQ-C8401U for $299 at crutchfield.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xt4WuNp...700&I=133C8401
btw, be prepared to spend around $1.5k-$2k for these double din setups. unless you got hook ups, dont expect below $1.5k. also, you'll need them installed at an authorized pro shop for the warranty to be valid. so no buying off ebay and DIY install if you want the warranty. i dont know whats teh reliability of these double dins, so i dont know if buy off ebay is worth what you save.

If you buy the eclipse, do not buy the 2495, that is last years model. The new model is the 5435, and it has a bunch of new features. The parent company for Eclipse, fujitsu ten, is the supplier for the Nav systems that are put into toyota vehicles. Plus, the connector plugs are the exact same for the Eclipse, so you don't need to splice the wiring harness.
Avic n2 is nice as well, but you cannot 1)defeat the "video playback while car is in motion" security, at least not by grounding the handbrake. It is now software/gyro controlled, so grounding the handbrake does not fix this. 2) you cannot add/edit nav points while driving. The vehicle must be stopped.

Check your facts. The AVN 2495 is a nav based unit. Ask Uncompiled, he has one. I've seen plenty of them, in action, and can tell you without a doubt they are Nav units. Maybe you are thinking of the AVX ?
The 2495 is NOT the current model. That was the model designation for 2004 and prior. The 2005 model year is 5435. Among other things, it has a 5v preout, rather than 2v, and it is a risc baed processor, and it is sat capable. There is also a 5935 that is coming out, which is also nav, but it is hard drive based, not drive based.

Ah, I see where the problem was. I was responding to epitek, who spoke about the AVN units. That's why I said, do not buy the 2495, meaning the AVN. I know the AVX is a different unit than the AVN, that's why I said "perhaps you meant avx".
I wasn't paying attention to the actual model numbers...just saw he had written AVN, and that was it. Never even noticed I was interswapping 2454 and 2495! D'oh! That's what I get for doing 4 things at once
So...that being said....if said guy is buying a AVN unit....the AVN 2454 is the old model unit. The new units are the AVN 5435 (currently out) and The AVN 5495 (set to debut soon, much like the TRD supercharger ).
If he's just looking for a touchscreen, non Nav based setup, well then his Eclipse choice is pretty simple : avx 2494
