1. took one of the many extra keys Toyota/ Scion gave me and cut the black plastic off w/ a utility knife.
2. hack sawed the newly exposed square metal to the width of the key shaft. I left just a little extra and cut it at an angle kinda like an arrow head w/ the end I'm hackin' being the pointed end. I didn't cut it to a point, I just wanted some angle to get the key shaft into the screw driver handle, but not come back out as easily.
3. found an old screw driver in the tool box - I must have a dozen flat heads and can't remember the last time I twisted a slotted screw. stuck the metal shaft into a vise and whacked the plastic end w/ a hammer 'til it came off.
4. jammed the key into the screw driver handle by hand and then hammered the handle onto the shaft while the end of the key was on a 2" x 4" (to take the brunt of the shock and not bend the key shaft) this is where the angle cuts really helped.
5. stuck the new key into the vise to make if straight and true and tested the overall key length.
* the key length is key - notice your factory key has quite a bit of metal w/ no grooves or "bumps" (tumbler trips) that's because you have to push the key in a bit when you start and extract the key. make sure you have that extra metal and that the key is secure in the new screw driver handle or you'll have a tough time extracting the key.
** mod at your own risk.
*** could this be the one to get me into the tech section?

Good stuff!!, I got an idea now from this thread, i can't wait to try, and if it works i'll post some pics too. It's the exact same idea but its going into something else. The only problem is trying to figure out what to do with the security chip, maybe i'll just find and old fob and put the chip in it and attach it to the key ring, we'll see.

Alright so here it is... I put my key in a spark plug. Sorry about the quality of the pic, my camera sucks. It doesn't work in the ignition, but hey it was fun to make and still looks cool as a spare for the doors. Maybe i'll put my house key in it instead.

I know, but i thought the chip was in the fob thing were the buttons are and i was gonna take it out and put it on this, but the chip is actually glued into the plastic and im not willing to cut up my good key, (like $200 or something crazy i think for that chip). So maybe i'll get a cheaper valet key and cut that up soon, how ever this key does work if you hold the original key up to the columb while its starting. once its started you don't need the chip. I know it still seems pointless, but like i said i'll get the cheaper valet key soon.

ok here's my finished product....
removed key and screwdriver metal with simply using heat
then with a hand grinder , i grinded down the sides so that it fits snug in the handle
then heated up the key a second time and pushed the key into the handle......while it was still hot in the handle i molded the plastic around the key
finished and the key is very secure no movement at all
