Default Under dash cold cathodes - $10 (pics!)

I was in frys yesterday and saw a set of 2 12" cold cathode tubes that were made to run off of a computers 12v DC for only $10!

All you have to do is pop off the dash by removing the 2 screws under the A/C *****, then remove the oven by pulling it out. I drew power for the lights from the cigarette lighter, simply remember that the black wire is positive and the white is negative, if you mix these up you will fry the converter box.

Using a flat blade screw driver I popped out one of the blank accessory plates and used a dremel to cut out a slot to fit the switch in.

So in less than 30 minutes I had installed some lights just as good as the dealer does for 1/30th of the price!

These pics were taken around 2:00pm, so it may not seem very bright, but I'll post more pics when I get a chance to take them at night.

Also, please excuse the messy carpet.

What is the oven? Did you wire it directly to the contacts in the lighter, or did u splice a wire or two?

The oven is the small compartment right below teh Ac controls on the dash, its like a little oven,

You can splice into the power of the Cig Lighter and wire you up a switch.

..

Although what I did is wire it up to the Lights on the Automatic Shifter on the floor, Tie the power into those alogn with ground on one of the bolts and also wired a switch and when I cut my running lights on they will come on and they also flash when I arm/disarm my alarm

Phone cam, so take that in mind.

http://www.xoxide.com/meteorlightred.html

I pulled the control box out and spliced directly into the tube, this way whenever the power is cut off and resupplied it doesnt reset to flashing.

The vent was the same tube, I busted the tube open and ripped up the circuit board after the first 4 LEDs (they are in 3 chains of 4 each).

surfcitylocal? Do you have that rearview mirror that have the leds under it? It looks like you do from the pics? I just can't exactly tell. If you do how does it work exactly?
Thanks

The switch is on the lower left hand corner. The batteries are in a compartment on the front side of the mirror.

Neat! Does it just clip onto the mirror? Does it look clean when on the mirror and all that? I might order one of those mirrors! Looks cool, bigger mirror, and easy to install! (NO WIRING! YAY)

I have a question on how to actually install these cathode lights. I would like to have a few in my car. xD

How do you turn them on and off? And how did you get all those cathode lights in there, surfcitylocal? I love it! I personally think you over did yourself but thats great, mind helping me out? =D
