2-3 cans os 3M 8088 spray adhesive
4-5 yards of 54" wide material (54" is the length of most "bolts" of fabric)
GOOD scissors, large work area, patience and strong arms/fingers
if u are using tweed, it is far easier than my choice
it stretches well and loves glue
for extra pop:
cut out a design of your choice from the leftover material
glue to desired panel BEFORE upholstering (like a first layer)
then glue upholstery over design
use a finger,popsicle stick,chopstick,elbow.....whatever
but you want to redraw the outline of the graphic
pushing the fabric down around the edges
this makes a 3D logo that can be felt and seen
please remember the graphic goes first...then the fabric

I used denature alcohol to pull the old one off. Tore up the skin on my hands doing it and wore me out but it was also 102 degrees out when i did it.
Use 3M 90 hi-strength. To apply new material. I used some heavy suede. I don't recommend it. The material doesn't stretch at all. (very little) which made the corners very difficult. Also be careful with the 3M glue. This stuff is real tacky. I got it on my fingers a few times and got it on the suede. Dropped a few F-bombs and all was good.

It is a fake suede. About $12 or $13 a yard if i remember correctly. Bought at Jo-Ann fabric store.
You don't need to take off any old material.
I know someone that did their interior in crushed velvet. It looks OK if it goes with your theme.

Man I want to do this to my tC but if you guys are having issues with your headliners. I cant think of what my troubles will be. And I looked up a replacement cost for a headliner and I really dont want to pay 600 for a f-up.

I just got my headliner done at a shop in sac. I've done a headline or two before and could have done this one if...... I had garage space . which I don't sooo. 80.00 for me. he said he normally charges 110+tax but since I said i'd bring him lots of scion customers his way he hooked me up.
headliners are not hard to do. and removing them is pretty easy. getting them back in correctly aligned for all the visor pieces and such up front is more of a pain.

^^^Bringing an old post back to life...I'm in the PROCESS of doing mine...I bought 3 yards of yellow suede which is more than enough material...I bought the cheaper stuff which seems to be pretty stretchy so I hope it's easier to work with...I'm not removing the old headliner material, I'm choosing to go right over it...I have everything removed and just waiting to cover it...I helped Scott (phoenixtc) do his tC the other day...I must say that the tC was a major pain in the ****...A little nervous about doing my own but I will update this thread when I am finally done...By the way, removing the headliner is a piece of cake...

Ok, mine is done...Had a change in plans...I have done away with the suede and went with all Carbon Fiber...The parts I had already done suede were re-done in CF...Twice the work but I think it turned out better in the long run...It turned out AWESOME...

Randy and I did ours. My opinion would be to wait for a few months when it gets cooler out. We used almost 4 cans but the extreme heat that we have doesnt touch it in the long run. Wait until it gets a little cooler out so it has time to do its thing!
