Default viper 791 switch install.

I had my alarm installed at circuit city awhile back, thing is they installed the valet switch and remote turnon kill switch on the removable panel at the bottom of the center console that needs to be taken off to get to the carpeting. I have taken off the panel a few times with no trouble, but this time the remote turnon switch wire ripped off so they need to be resoldered. Im also going to move the switch to a different location, because the wire is very short. How do I know on the wire and switch which wire goes to which pin..

It doesnt matter which wire goes to which side.....all the switch does is connect the two of them

ok, so there is no positive or negative... I see in the install manual is recomends quick disconnects if its on a removable panel, but im thinking it would be better to move at lese one of the switches somewhere more discrete.. Does anyone know what gauge wire is used for the switches, because I would like to go to radio shack and possibly pick up some quick disconnects and some additional wire or something..

If you have some normal speaker wire laying around that would work. it is probably about 18 gauge, or if you dont care about having the switch just take the 2 wires strip the ends, twist them together and tape. I tend to do that alot, that switch causes more hassel than its worth, but thats only my opinion.

I personally would never use the switch, but since I have it I would like to use it.. Its pretty thin wire, im thinking even thinner than 18 gauge. Without this switch my remote start doesnt work.. Your saying I can just twist the two ends together which would make the remote start work im guessing? Im sure theres a place under the dash I could put the switch, I even think I remember someone mentioning a spot where there was a hole perfect for the switch or something like that..

You might want to insulate it after you twist them together, though.

That is just for valet so they don't mess with it or an extra safety measure so it won't start for whatever reason. ie:working underneath car.

Yeah, but just an extra I guess. Maybe if you aren't working under the hood or you don't want anyone else that is driving your car to play with it.

It is an extra precaution in case the hood pin doesn't work. I install in Illinois and have ssen many a hood pin switch come through that have rusted open due to our nasty weather and no longer function properly. I like the rollerball or mercury switch more and more are using now. Much easier to install as well. Some times it can be hard to find a good place to mount a pinswitch with the rollerball or mercury switch you can usually just zip tie it to something on your hood. I have been working under a hood and go to reconnect a battery and have it try to remote start by itself because it thought the hood was closed due to a rusted hoodpin. That'll wake you up real quick!

yeah.. now u guys make me wanna install my switch again. although as of now my hood pin switch is in good shape.. I saw a hole on this metal bracket under the dash where I think the switch may work well. I want to keep the valet switch where it is, just for convience. Since its black it blends in when the panel its on. I definately gotta get some quick disconnects though..
