I got my Viper Remote Start/ Keyless Entry Alarm (771XV) for $350 with free instalation over at Best Buy. I can trust the work they do because i've had 3 headunits installed 2 sets of speakers and a Viper Alarm installed and nothing has gone wrong.

I got lucky... The BestBuy installer did a good job and included install of all the standard features at no extra cost. Remote Start, Keyless Entry, Failsafe Starter Kill, Panic, Vehicle Locator, Flashing, etc. all work great!
Those features are standard that he installed for you. BB advertises the Viper 160 w/ those features. About the only thing you can add to it is trunk pop and horn honk..... What did they try to charge you extra for?

lies, it should take no more than 3 hours for a guy that does this for a living...
if it takes a minimun of six hours you would have a minimum of a 500 dollar install on top of the unit price...

minimum? maximum of 6 houts maybe... during this time of year best buy tends to try and stay away from alarm remote start jobs in order to make way for easier installs like radios and speakers... where they can make more money on...

not all best buy installers are bad installers, not all are good... this goes with installers at every shop...

They tried to charge extra for Failsafe Kill Start, Horn Honk and Domelight Supervision. We decided we didn't need the Domelight feature. BB agreed to include the Kill Start and Horn Honk are no extra charge.

The whole job was $200 total. No extra charges. Horn honk works fine in Panic and Vehicle Locator mode. We programmed it so parking lights flash but no horn honk when it's armed and disarmed. That's the way we wanted it. I think we got a fairly good deal. :D RPM

hey brianxb, what bestbuy do you work at, i just recently left one here in pa. oneslow, i gotta agree wtih you, not all installers are bad, and not all are good.

tbone, just take it to cc and be done with it. save the $50

seems as if the topic got way off track.

Jim, Id rather not say because I do surf these boards while at work. Im between DC and Baltimore.

For those who said that quoting 6 hours wasnt correct-

Keep in mind its christmas and installers get stressed. Theyll tell you anything. I was losing it at work today and I think I told a women it would take 3 hours to put a radio in a civic.. hehehe.

we tell every customer to drop off the car at 10:00 and we'll call when its done....

our general answer to how long does it take to put in a remote starter/alarm/system/ under car lights.... is 2 hours...

radios, speakers .... 30-45 mins....

Well I just got my viper installed at my local circuit city. I took the car in at 12 pm and got it back at 9pm. Im not sure if this is to due with it being the day after christmas, or it just takes a long time to do things right. All I can say is im really happy with the install they did. Everything works great, and they did everything neatly.

i don't know why you would need a second remote....
it the unknown things that make me want a back up remote....(it get wet while wasing the car... drops and breaks....pops out of its holster and gets lost....)

i have a question.. I was at bestbuy today, and I wasnt able to unlock my vehicle from more then like 10 feet away. Is it because off all the cars or something thats interfering with? I see the signal icon flashing like normal, but if i try to do something from "far away" (10 feet) the remote beeps twice and nothing happens.. Is there a way to make it work better. Normally it works extrememly far away, but i noticed the last couple times at bestbuy it doesnt work right.

if its only at best buy, there might be something about that area.

if it happens everywhere, then it needs to be looked at....

changing channels will not help (and you can not change it...)
it is something in the area, so nothing you do will change it...

don't go there anymore.....lol
