here's another possibility-
originally i was wanting to see if the minifini armrest for the mini cooper would fit the xB, but minifini didn't seem too enthusiastic in helping out.
now being listed in the '04 mini catalog is an steel braced armrest. talking to the mini parts guy, he mentioned that it is a solid piece that is actually drilled down into the frame between the seats. downside, it costs $249 bucks.
i ordered one (as a gift) but will first see if it can be modded to the xB. i should get it in a week or so.

yep, that's it...just saw it over the weekend. its a pretty substantial piece of engineering, steel and all.
i'm somewhat certain it would work. the anchoring down to the frame is the only 'don't know'

For everyone who has looked into an armrest, How similiar is the xB/xA to the Toyota Echo? Has anyone checked on dimensions needed ie. heigth, width and reach?

I'm getting an xB soon and will do some comparison then. I may have found something that will work.

Has anyone looked into and armrest that is actually attached to the driver seat, and folds down. I had one of those in my CIVIC and it was great.

Has anyone called minifini to see if they will make a scion arm rest?
Looks like this armrest would not need too much modification.

but I suspect they are mini only
I will call this afternoon if I get a chance.

I have been activley searching for an armrest. I got the Husco model and am not pleased with the mounting method. Two brackets bolt onto the plastic center console.
Since the console seems very loose, I doubt this will provide for a stable armrest.
I do like very much their sliding design and pullout cupholder.

I have another company sending me their first for sale/proto armrest for the Scion.
They test fitted at a dealer and it was very solid...mounting to the tunnel via the seat trach bolts. I should get it be weeks end and will install it by mid May.

I'll post results and pics thereafter.

I may even explore using the sliding feature and adding it the more stable mounting design. This one tips up and out of way when needed.

going to pick a part today and getting an armrest off a car and going to try to mold it. the mounting to the seat bracket bolt is a good idea for stability. think i might try to incorporate that. going for the 4runner armrest since it has cup holder slide out and ashtray. mounting it to the seat brackets would actually be alot easier since i'm not for drilling holes in my console, don't want to make it look ghetto. i'll post some pics of the process when i get it going. just bought most of the supplies i'd need for fiberglassing it. i've been looking at the design of the one on ebay how it inserts into the cupholder, it isn't a bad idea but it seems like it looks a little on the cheap side like that, hopefully using a 4runners will keep it stock looking. I measured it up out of my parents 4runner and it looks like it should fit with some modification just fine. :D
