Default What percent window tint should I get?

First a few things. My MIL has a 2006 xB and like to have the windows tinted. I've had many vehicles with tint, both that I've done myself and had done professionally. I know there are laws to this stuff. If I followed the rules for my state it wouldn't be worth doing. But if it isn't over done the cops leave you alone. Also to avoid confusion when talking about tint I will use the percent values as a manufacture does. So if I say 35 percent, I mean 65 percent light is blocked and 35 percent is transmitted. So a 5 percent tint would be darker than 35 percent.

It looks like there is "privacy" glass on the back window and rear doors. What percent is this? By tinting over the top of this what is the effect? Say it is factory of 50 percent and I put 35 percent on. Will I end up with 25 percent? What I would like to end up with is 5% in back window, 20% all glass on rear side doors, 20% or 35% on front door glass. And 20% or 5% on the front window just as an "A" line (about top 5-10"). I'm just going to do straight black, no mirror, bronze or colored.

What would you guys recommend for what I want for the final results?
I know picture won't show exactly how it looks in person. But for a comparison of how the rear door and back window turn out I would like to see pictures if anyone has them.

Thanks.

If you put 35% over 50% it's gunna be pretty dark. I just put on 20% (well, actually 18, but whatever) and I love it. It's pretty blacked out though, and from a distance it looks like 5%. So if you're looking for a really dark back, and a 35% front, I would just wrap 35 all around and have the pre-tint get the rear as dark as you wanted

I would post up pictures, but I have a tc, so I don't think it would help

Is it factory tint or do they coat the glass with something? I thought you had to have old tint removed before you re tint.

I think you can retint over glass but it is harder so professional installation is a must.

^I may just be thinking this in my head.
