XM Radio question

XM Radio question
I know the radio is XM ready and all I need to buy is the antenna. My question is do I have to go back to the dealership and buy the antenna or can I go to say Car Toys and buy one that will work with the radio? Has anyone got this setup yet?

If you do a search you will find that you need more than the antenna. You also need the tuner, and it has to be the Toyota tuner, made by Pioneer.
There is currently a sale one these tuners by Sparks Toyota in SC that is a really good deal. Check the past posts here and in the ICE forum

With the Toyota XM Tuner kit, you get the antenna, tuner, wiring, etc., and if you get it from trdsparks.com you get Free Activation and one years' Free Service for the price of the Tuner.

You can download the instruction set from the Sparks website. pdf file, about 15 pages I believe.
The installation is very easy but will take at least 3 hours, maybe more. I would recommend downloading anf reading carefully first. There are no special tools really needed, all of the snap type fittings come off readily and are easily replaced. The one place that it says to remove the bottom of the back seat - don't bother. The one bolt that needs removing at the end of the seat can be accessed by pulling up on the seat end enough to reach the bolt.
I don't see how Toyota coul deny warranty on self installation of a Toyota part!!
I have had my XM for several months now and have taken a couple trips since. It is sweet to be able to pick any style music or news no matter when or where you are!

I'm usually over at yotatech.com and toyota-4runner.org, but I bought a Scion head unit here last year, and was given an XM Tuner Kit for Christmas. I never got around to installing it, so it's still in the box and packaging and everything direct from a Toyota dealership in California.
I know it's listed for something like $450-$500 online, but if one of you is interested in it, I'd of course be willing to sell it for less. It's the Genuine Toyota Scion XM Tuner Kit with Antenna for the Scion xA and xB headunit. PM me if you think you'd like it.
If not, the part number you'll need is PT546-52040. Good luck!

XM Antenna challenges...
Hey guys...
I did the same Toyota XM install.( a great, easy add-on to the HU and good deal from Sparks!)
It is a clean look and works with the stearing wheel controls. My challenge is I always get an flashing antenna error on my display after I wash my ride. It usually corrects itself after a few days during which, I still get a signal. This past washing, I get the same antenna error on my HU but now, no XM signal at all. Any tips or fixes for this? Besides not washing the car or reinstalling the antenna in a zip-lock bag?
Thanks...
