...it cost less to build this trailor then to buy that one. its longer, more storage, more top surface, storage for 2 2 1/2 gallon tanks, 1 trailor spare and 1 car spare.

I finally had a chance to install my hitch on Friday.

Hitch Installed.

Drawbar installed, and wiring out.

Drawbar removed, wiring stowed.

My xB has Swift racing springs in it, when towing I swap back to the stock rear springs (takes under 10 minutes), this raises the rear so once the trailer is attached it sits more level instead of dragging ___.

I got the hitch installed just in time, as I bought this on Saturday.

do you have a manual or auto?

Last but now least I've got swift springs too. You dont think that with the min drop the swift springs ahve you could go without dragging?

thanks and this is def my next mod

oh 1 more ? how difficult is it to attach the wiring harness? and how do you do it?

Thanks, it needs a ton of work, but should be a lot of fun when fixed up.

I had to tow it through some really hilly terrain (including over the highest point in the US of I-90). On level ground I could do 60-65 without much trouble, but got down to 45mph in 4th on the steeper hills to keep the engine temp down, even then i rarely cracked 190deg.

Those are around 1000lbs from the factory, when I redo it I'm removing the icebox, stove, propane, and water systems soit should be closer to 850-900 when I'm done.

Manual.

There is still a fair amount of clearance so even with the stock springs I probably wouldn't scrape the drawbar, but the trailer brought the back down at least 1-2"< so if I'd left the swift springs in it would definitely be visually sagging in the back.

It is really easy, and comes with directions, but here is the short version.

-Remove the slatted covers on the side panels of the cargo area.
-Take the wiring kit and find the large module, remove the backing from the adhesive on it and reach through the passenger side opening where the slatted cover was and stick it to the inside of the quarter panel.
-Find the appropriate wiring for the passenger lights (see the included instructions), unplug the connector from the back of the taillight, plug that into the connector for that side's wiring and plug the other side of the connector into the taillight.
-Remove the covers over the spare & storage compartment in the rear.
-Remove the compartment & the spare (with it's Styrofoam support).
-Pop out the two plugs at the bottom of the trim piece across the bottom of the hatch opening (I used a trim removal tool, but a flat screwdriver will work)
-Remove the trim piece by yanking up.
-The lower end of the side trim panels should now be visible having taken off the middle piece, yank up on these enough to pop them loose at the bottom.
-Find the wiring for the driver's side light, feed it out under the passenger trim panel, along the middle piece and up under the driver's side panel.
-Remove the connector from the driver's side taillight and install the connector like on the other side.
-Find the wiring for the trailer itself, and pull that out of the slatted cover opening to get it out of the way.
-Put your hand in the slatted cover opening and feel around on the back of the taillight, you should feel a nut holding the taillight in, remove this nut and fit the eye connector on a white wire over the stud, then re-install the nut (this is the ground wire).
-Check the wiring at the trailer connector to make sure it is working right, then re-install the trim panels, making sure not to pinch any of the wiring.

When you aren't using the trailer wiring you can stuff it back in the hole for the slatted cover and put the cover on to hide it. I keep my drawbar in the cargo compartment, and it looks like there is no hitch on the xB even from the inside.

Default here is mine

Mine is a Curt... gave me a little more ground clearance than the hidey kind of hitch AND gives you the ability to use say a hitch-haul or a bike carrier a lot more easier as well.

Just sharing now

Never posted any pics before so I hope I did this right. So please no flame. I am feeling a little fragile today.

Hi guys,

Can anyone please measure the e-trailers Drawtite 28451 ball mount shown here:
http://www.etrailer.com/p-28451.htm

Dimension A (RED)
1. I want to know the measurements from the PIN hole to the end of the solid bar. center of hole to end of solid bar.

DImension B (Blue):
2. I want to know the measurement from the PIN hole to where the 28451 does the 90 degree turn and then booms out.

I have a custom hitch set up on a vehicle of mine and i need a vertical mount ball mount like this. everywhere i call, no one has it in stock and only drop ship. I would like to know the measurements so i know if this 28451 ball mount will work for me or if i have to have something custom fab'd up by a local welder.

Thanks so much......

Pic of dimensions i need:

My xB is at the paint shop and it might not be done until the 20th. If you haven't gotten a measurement by then PM me or reply to this topic and remind me and I'll measure it.

You know the owners manual warns against towing anything with this car, right? lol

In the US it does, but elsewhere it says up to 1000lbs. Their just scared of lawsuits in the US from people who don't know how to tow.
