Default Anyone who has autocrossed thier xb PLEASE HELP

ok here is the situation i am registering for the SCCA events in my area and all is well until one guy("who happens to be the safety steward for this area.....he says that even though the suspension is fully worked they will not allow it to run becasue it is unable to run in stock class prior to mods.......I know this is incorrect because i spoke with the head of the solo tech area of SCCA and he said as long as the suspension has been lowered or sway/strut bars added it is eligible for street touring class.......Please anyone who has done any events please let me know so i have some more backup on this the event is 4 days away i am all tuned and prepped for it and now this.....

I'm not sure if I'm reading your thread correctly, but it sounds to me that you want to run in the "S" class (stock). If you added a rear sway bar, that automatically puts you in the "ST" class (street touring). Please provide a list of the parts that you're running on your XB so that we can determine what class you can run in.

no i want to run in street touring class but they are saying in order for me to be allowd to do so the car would have had to be eligible for stock class when the vehicle was stock and since it is not they say it cannot be allowed for street touring..........its ___ ive been on and off the phone with the SCCA all day and everyone is in agreeance that with the mods dont that i should have absolutely no problem getting reg'd for the event but the safety steward for this particular event is still not convinced and he is untimately the one who decides

Is there a reason why the safety steward doesn't consider the xb eligible for stock class - even in stock form? Ask him what his opinion is on what class the xb falls under. What size wheels are on your xb? This also makes a difference in classing.

no its the SCCA itself that just posted a new bulletin saying that the xb stock is not fit fot stock class only in street touring if mods have been done......i think its kinda dumb personally because i am still a believer that you can auto-X any car....you may not be able to be competitive in some vehicles but you can finish a course in anything.....I just think its stupid........I am going to be doing another series of events beginning in march instead because this other group understands the classing and said its no problem based on what i have

Well from what is stated, you have the correct mods to be in the street touring class, ie. sway bar kit. So I believe you shouldn't have any problems. I think the steward and officials need to review the SCCA rules and regulations. They may be just giving you a hard time. If you can, you should report them to the SCCA headquarter for their incompetence. The XB handles just as well as most cars out there - with the right mods.

I'm with you Bio!!

I run mine here on Maui in H class, same as an xA, and it's stock other than wheels/tires. It handles geat! I once worked for a formula Mazda team setting up cars so I know a thing or two about suspension and geometry. I can say that a stock xB handles pretty sweet for a front wheel drive car, and that wheels/tires make a huge difference. I can only imagine what stiffer sway bars would be like! I'd be taking this sweeper a little faster than 50 mph I thnk.

This was shot from a tripod mounted in my back seat.

Good luck!

My car starts off in H-Class when running is Solo 1 events. With all the modifications ive done so far i get bumped up to G-class and I still KICK-A$$. I think its BS, that they dont let you run in SCCA. The car is classified as an H-class car, so i dont see the problem.

I tech cars at events here for Maui SCCA and when I took it out the first time, the other tech was questiong why a "mini-van" was allowed when "they won't even let an X5 run!". ???? So??

I informed him that it was MY car and it was indeed classified as a wagon NOT a min-van and that other SCCA clubs across the country were running them as H cars just like the xA so the president had been set.

Keep pushing them with info like this.
Here's a link to my results on our website.

Print it out and wave it in their face!

ha! i have wondered what that would be like.
unfortunately, STS is highly competetive so i have little chance of winning... that is unless the regular STS leaders all get sick on the same day. hmm....

it is a lot of fun regardless.

I just got told by gulf coast auto crossers that I couldn't run mine, because the SCCA doesn't have it listed. Even though they are not SCCA sanctioned, they just shadow there rules. I'm in the middle of email arguing with them...we'll see

heres the final email:
Contact SCCA, go to this link, the phone number is at the bottom of the page

http://www.scca.org/Solo/Solo.asp?IdS=01B223-89DBE40&x=050|010&~=

Ask them what class the XB can run in, get something in writing. On the SCCA web site it does not list the XB in the stock class group, it lists the other 2 Scion models. This normally means the vehicle is not accepted for autocross. Just because some places let them run by guessing as to what class they are in doesn't mean it is safe to autocross.

that sucks, guess its time to bother the SCCA on the daily

i saw a supercharged and super lowered mid-sized suv at an scca autocross once. that thing was amazing. it got around with a time that was better than mine and most others. there was a long straight, which is probably why.

i don't know why the xb would be a problem, especially if it has been lowered.
