any of you guys bought a salvaged title? Any bad results what should I look for? Should I wait and save more $ for a clean title?

I bought mine salvaged. But I had two people that are more knowledgable about cars than I am check it out before I bought it. One of them is a teacher at an automotive school.

Salvaged cars can still be good cars...just take your time to check it out.

I bought my salvaged 04 xB for $7500. No regrets so far.

Also economy cars don't take that much to get a salvage title. Since most of the repair is labor costs imagine a fender bender on a Z06 that costs $10k to repair and on a xB that costs the same to repair. Well the xB will most likely be salvaged while the Z06 retains a clean title because the cost to repair is only about 20% of it's cost.

Another tip is to check out the VIN tags on all the fenders. If the story checks out, only the part that was replaced should have a different tag than the original VIN.

cool thanks for the heads up. Yeah im on a budget and most of the xb's for sale in my range are salvaged. 7500 is good man!!! Im going to hold out for a deal like that.

Yes, Just get it instected by an ASE Certified Mechanic and they will check it out completely and insure all the repairs were done right and safely. It's always a risk just cover your A$$. Good luck!!!

That's true, the dealer replaced a piece of my dash, and put in a new side window and charged $1,400. I don't even want to know how much they will charge if I had to have some minor body work done.

Check with your insurance company before you do anything. They may not insure a salvaged vehicle.

Good one. I forgot about that. They may just cover it for what you paid instead of actual blue book.

I think the insurance companies consider a salvage vehicle as an additional liability and may not want your business, or charge you a higher rate.

If you are involved in an accident with another vehicle, that persons insurance may find out you were driving a "defective" car and may go after your insurance for damages.

That sucks, as you noted that a lot of toatled vehicles are basically sound. They're totaled out due to the high labor cost of repairs.

I don't remember what states (do some research) but if you register the car in those states, it will clear the 'salvage' brand on the title. One way to avoid the insurance thing. Just a heads up

if the car is repaired right a salved car can be as good or better then one of the same year, simply because the salvaged one will generally have less miles, and 99% of the insurance companies have no problems with insuring full coverage on a salvaged vehicle, I have a jeep thats been totalled because of hail damage, full coverage on it, they just won't give blue book or black book for the value of the car
