actually... if you have the space and tools.... it shouldnt take more than 30min for you to install springs your self...

i believe the rear is similar set up to the xB.. its litteraly 1 bolt for each side to undo after you jack the car up...

front is a bit more time consuming but again pretty easy...

impact wrench is recomended for the fronts to break the bolts loose.. plus you have to take off the front tires.

regular socket wrench should get the rear bolts off... and you can leave the rear tires on

a torque wrench is a must have the bolts and nuts on the knuckels need to be torqued down too 97 ft lbs

the center nut on top of the strut is 25 ft lbs

3 nuts on top 29 ft lbs

nut on the rear shock gets 36ft lbs

I've done several sets of springs and have it down to 45 minutes. Remember... It's not the springs that make the ride harsh. It's the stock shocks in the rear. They need to be replaced with the Monroe Sensatracs.

can the stock shocks take the one inch drop?

they should.....and not be to much worse.... as long as you dont have a huge system in the back... you'll probably not notice......much

They can if you don't mind the rough ride. That is why I suggested adding the Monroes. It's a very cheap mod that does so much to improve ride comfort. :clap:

Find a nice progressive rate lowering spring and you'll be happy. It'll ride like stock and give you the drop you want.

I'm running Ksport springs (cheap from elementmotorsport.com) and I'm quite pleased with the ride. Still on stock shocks/struts. Ride is almost like stock, until you hit a bump or toss it into a corner. The improvement in handling/looks is well worth it.

price is also a factor how much would my toyota dealership charge me to put on the trd springs and how much do you think it would be if i went with a decent aftermarket set of springs installed at lets say les schwab

If you have to pay someone to install them that's gonna more than double the price. Just because you buy TRDs doesn't mean you have to have the dealer do the install. Get them on-line and have them installed by a shop that does that type of work.
Remember you'll also want the monroes for the back with whatever springs you end up with.

Honestly, it's quite simple to do it yourself, even with little know-how. Just get a buddy and so some research on these forums, and it can be done in under an hour. It's certainly more fun than paying someone an arm and a leg to do easy work for you.

It shouldn't be more than whatever the place charges for 1 hr. of labor. 50-100 bucks I guess. It's so much more fun doing it yourself though.

ok george_da_2nd, i went to the dealer today to check on my spoiler i ordered and i asked the service rep and he said $600 labor plus parts. WT? anyway i asked my salesperson and he said it was $330 for parts and install and to get him when i want the springs installed and he would battle with the service rep. If i would have known that i could get them installed for $330 i would have ordered springs when i ordered my wing. Sales person said that the service rep is toyota and does not understand Scion pricing. When i let them fight it out ill repost on the winner.

Well im capable of doing it. I took a cradle from a 88 Fiero and stuffed it in a 87. They are not compatable because lotus redesigned the rear suspention for pontiac in a effort to save the model. 84 thriugh 87 were front wheel drive units from the sunbird with the tie rod ends locked to the frame. the 88 was a trailing arm set up designed by lotus. I had modifiy the struts to get the alignment right. I dont have access to the garage that i had then. If there is a local club in indy that helps each other out im in. But im not gonna take my car apart in the driveway. I guess i got old and tired to soon. I would pay someone to do it so if it messes up im not to blame.
