e-brake help!!!
come on ScionLifers! I know someone out there can help me.
my e-brake is functioning, but not enough to stop my ride from rolling. here is some background:
I had OTG shims - then I got some different rims and took the shims off. nothing wrong w/ them, just too wide for the new wheel setup. everything, I mean everything, went smoothly on the un-install. but as soon as I dropped the car off the jacks after mounting the new wheels, no e-brake.
I pulled the rear hubs and checked that the cabel is pulling the spring - it is. it just seems to not be pulling it far enough to push the pads out to the drum.
any help? any adjustments I can make to the cabel or springs or the brake assembly?
thanks in advance. I've never had much of a delay in finding stuff out here on SL. "I love you man"
p.s. I just remembered that I forgot to check the search button. sorry.

Remove the center console
Pull E-Brake up 3 clicks
you'll see the lock nut and adjusting nut just under the handle
Tighten down adjusting nut, re tighten the lock nut.
thats what the manual says ( just about)
make sure your brakes are adjusted out back before trying this

the ebrake sucks, and only 2 of the wheels actually have the parking brake on them (rear drums).
don't believe me? jaack up your car, with ebrake on, and try to move your front wheels, it's so easy, then try the rear, and it's alot more difficult.

So what? Go jack up just about any car you have ever owned, driven, ridden in, or seen. Almost all of them only have the parking brake in the rear. And that is sufficient to hold the car in almost all circumstances.

It is not an emergency (e) brake. It is a parking (p) brake. And hayalex6 is right, parking brakes on rear wheels only on every car and light truck I can think of. There may be an exception and possibly trucks with air powered brakes may lock all wheels when p-brake is applied.

As light as our cars are it would probably serve in an emergency. On heavier cars it will not do very much. My truck for example has rear disks and the p-brake is actually a very small drum arrangement inside the hub/brake rotor. It is not powerful to stop snot from running. It will assist the tranmission parking paw when it is Park. The manual refers to parking brake, not e-brake. It is just a matter of words, no big deal really.

I love how heated discussions become when it all comes down to semantics...
Staying on topic... thanks for posting the quick DIY frog box.. never thought to look in the manual for something like this but mine really needs it...

Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, you could always install a line lock into your rear brakes.
used to have one on the front of my '69 GTO for "warming" up my tires for racing.
it held the front, but left the rears to spin freely, causing alot of smoke, warming the tires for better track grip.
I guess you could just put one on the rears to use as a heavy duty parking brake.
