Default Interchangeable Brake Caliper or Caliper/rotor for 04 xB?

Hi,
Does anyone know what front brake caliper or caliper/rotor combinations are interchangeable with the 04 xB?
I need a smaller caliper, one that doesn't cover as much of the rotor.

Thanks.

*CaliPer* Why do you want a smaller caliper?

I had some 18” wire wheels custom made but the adapter is right up against the brake caliber. If I space the adapter out the wheel won’t tuck. I either need to:
1 Trim the caliber.
2. Find a smaller caliber or caliber, rotor combination that with match up with my car.
3. Custom build a drum brake system for the front of my XB and that’s a pain!

Those wheels are going on one way or another.
There must be a smaller compatible caliber that will work and I bet there is someone who has had this same issue.
Thanks again,

First its Caliper, not Caliber which is a unit of measurement for firearms.
Second you are telling me whoever did the custom wheels didn't make sure you would clear the brake system?

Hey Jay, I am from Visalia as well. Born and raised. Still work there, but live in Fresno now.

Where did you get your wheels custom made? Not to be rude but, if they were truly custom built, your wheel guy sucks. And finding another xB with wires will prove to be difficult. There are only a select few throughout the entire country. If you really want to run those wheels on that car you may need to look into a custom adapter. There are a few machine shops here in the valley that can probably do it for you.

Use spacers, a grinder or a combination of the two.

Depending on where its touching. It may be easier to have a little bit machined off the caliper. I've seen it done on some hotrods to help clear wheels. Being in Cali. I am sure you can find someone to do it. But I'd bet new wheels would be the best bet.

Jay,

I took a look at your profile and saw the picture of your box under construction. Who is doing all of your work? Is it a shop here in town? I'd like to come check it out in person if that is possible.

Again, on your wheel problem. I really think the problem isn't the wheel, or the caliper, but the adapter. Check with some local machine shops and see what they can do with the existing adapters, or making some custom ones. Johansen-Thomas might be able to help you with it. You can start there.

Is the issue that the adapters can't go all the way on because the flange is too large a diameter and hits the caliper? Let us know exactly what the problem is, and we'll try and help you get it resolved.

The adapter has to match up with the wheel so it can’t be modified.
If you look at the calipers on the XB you’ll see they are fairly large. I have been told by Toyota this is the smallest caliper in their current line of production. I wonder if there was a smaller caliper made by Toyota in a previous year that will work? I know that most of the after market stuff is bigger and not smaller. I also know that another guy put on this same type of wheel on his XB. He got really mad at the wheel builder so I an unable to find out what he did but I do know the parts came from Toyota. If you look at the XB caliper you will see there isn’t much to shave. If I can’t find a simple caliper/rotor solution to this I will do a drum brake conversion. It will be a pain but on the other hand drum brakes will give the car a cleaner look.

I shaved the car, welding the back doors shut, welded in the panels, then someone broke into my garage and stole all my tools. After that I dropped the car off at the painter’s and had him suicide the front doors and make the pan. I don’t want to say too much about what I am doing now because it always seem to take longer then it should. I think in two months the car will be completely finished and I will post pictures and info on the built at that time.

So being that you are local... where is this thing at? I want to go check it out. Maybe I can look at the wheel situation with you as well and see if I can help.

Wire wheels will go on with some effort.

Can't say that I particularly like it, but I respect the work. (Never been a fan of wires, and got over wild paint schemes about 5 years ago.) So is this thing in town or not? I want to come check it out. I'll actually be staying in town later tonight to have dinner with my parents. The wife will be here with her box as well.

Oh and how did you finally massage the components to get the wheel on?

Wow!

You definitely won't be hiding in a crowd.

I always thought black spokes would look cool on my box.
