Hey im planning on getting some new shocks and im debating on either just the rear Koni yellows thats goin for about 200 or get the kyb gr2 front and rears for about the same price. I have about a 1.5"-2" drop with espelir asd springs. i just got some 16x7 wheels with front offset 20 and 16x7 rear offset 12. i havent put them on yet so i dont know if itll rub or not yet.

 

I don't know the answer because i've no experience with the KYBs, but here's a bump for more eyeballs.

 

I just got the Konis, and I couldn't recommend them enough! (I'll be posting about my whole setup later when I have more time.) Anyway, awesome ride (better than stock with the springs I got!), complete adjustability...they've been the best there is for decades for a good reason!

 

I always thought the GR2's from KYB were meant as a replacement for the OEM shocks/struts. The Adjustable Koni's and KYB's AGX (if available for our cars) are the "performance" shocks/struts.

Try to see if KYB AGX's are available otherwise you might as well just get the Koni's.

I could be wrong though

i don't know which variety the stock shocks are but all i know they are KYB's

 

I just called cust. service for KYB and the aftermarket KYB's are 15 percent firmer than stock.

 

so if got kyb struts for an echo will it still drop me a 1/2 inch in the front of my box? I figuered the kybs' would be more firm than the monroes. i can get the kyb gr2 from my local autozone.....

i have the kyb set from ebay... and they are alittle stiffer than OEM and they ride nice too especially on corners... would get the koni's if i had the money... but for the price the kyb's are a good buy

 

the kyb's wont drop the front of the car like the monroes.... the kyb's are for the xb not the echo

 

Honestly if you have the money just go for the Koni's. Adjustability will go farther then a "little stiffer" ride. I should have gotten the Koni's but I opted for the TRD package (got a great deal on them). Now that I am looking back I should have just paid the extra $$$ and got the Koni's with the 2" drop springs or coilovers. It's only been a year or so and I am looking at redoing all my shocks, struts, and springs.

IMHO, it's better to save up and get something you know will be good for you then to just buy what you can afford now. Chances are you'll end up spending more money doing the same thing two or three times. . . I'm learning that with my subwoofers, I've gone through three sets. . .lol. . . and I'm poor so it hurts.

 

yeah...i just dont have the money at the moment.....i guess ill just keep riding my set up now. and save up for the nicer stuff.

Coilovers are probably the best cause of adjustability but the minus is price, air suspension setups are great for on the fly adjustments but price is also a killer. I forget all the numbers of parts for lowering springs but here are some names, Tien, tanabe, HKS, Goldline, Eibach.

I know there are multiple reviews on all the stuff, user opinions are all over the place too. Definately hit up a search here and I think you'll find there are a huge number of threads.

Also don't forget about rims, if you are running them specific setups might not work for you. I'd list all the info but there is just too much. I can answer questions about the TRD setup from the dealer but that's about it. lol

What do you mean? Didn't you post that the aftermarket are 15% firmer than the factory stuff?
