Default LSD installed....

Many of you that know me know that i have had this mod on my list for some time now.
Well I finally got to it.

KAAZ LSD.

i can not say that i did this install by myself.
transmissions are like voodoo or magic to me.
i had taken out the transmission and delivered it to the tranny shop for their expertise.
i also gave them a used echo tranny for swapping out the final drive gears (this is another story....)and the LSD unit.

LSD in the box...

LSD out of the box...

a few days later and i got it all back...
the LSD is working perfectly. although it still needs to be broken in properly.
they suggest 30mins of doing figure 8's. coasting through the turns at the tightest radius poss.

right now at tight turns it kinda feels like i'm driving on gravel, but that should ease a bit once broken in...

Does the echo final drive give higher top end? Or allow for better highway cruising speeds at lower rpm?

You should break in the KAAZ lsd before even driving it on a daily basis... The reason why you feel like your driving on gravel is because your waering out the clutch packs and they're wearing un-evenly

And the final drive ratio outcome was...??? What was the cost to do the gear change as well?

That is something I would do tomorrow if it was proven *cough*BY YOU*cough* to work well and imporve MPG's

yes. the two options for your question give the same result....

lower RPM at a given speed means you will have a higher top end....

First...Long time no here, how have you been?
the gravel feeling is before the clutch packs were seated properly. just like breakes or a clutch, it needs to be broken in properly.

the LSD was only driven 2.3 miles to a secure location where i looked like an idiot for 45 mins doing figure 8's...
Happy to report it no longer has the gravel feeling. i took it out for a spirited drive and found the handling very comfortable.
once i feel the install has proven itself, i will put it to the test.
yes, this means i will risk my body kit to go off roading!!! loose gravel and mud here i come!!! hahaha..

eggie, the echo gears will lower RPM's and help MPG. The echo gears were the wrong ratio (way too low for N/A motors, too low for my taste with a boosted box...Wraith, do you have any contacts for used echo parts? 2000-2002 hatch 5 speed tranny???).
i ended up buying a gear set from Japan. i am waiting for it to get here...
to put the gears in while doing this operation might have only cost an extra 150-200 dollars....unfortunatly for me, i will have to do this whole operation over again and pay the full amount.

it does seem simple...
but it a complete rebuid of the transmission.

finding the toyota parts is just proving difficult....
i ended up going with the TRD gears. more expensive but they were available...

TRD GEARS!? I thought the TRD Yielded a LOW, LOW Ratio. Like for racing applications:
Stock:
Gear / Ratio C150 5MT
1st 3.54:1
2nd 1.90:1
3rd 1.31:1
4th 0.96:1
5th 0.81:1
Reverse 3.25:1
Final Drive 4.31:1

TRD:
Gear / Ratio C150 5MT
1st 2.786:1
2nd 2.059:1
3rd 1.600:1
4th 1.273:1
5th 1.042:1

If I can remember correctly, lower ratios would yield lower rpms at hgher speeds. Like the stock automatic compared to the stock manual:
Gear / Ratio C150 5MT U340E 4AT
1st 3.54:1 2.84:1
2nd 1.90:1 1.55:1
3rd 1.31:1 1.00:1
4th 0.96:1 0.70:1
5th 0.81:1 –
Reverse 3.25:1 2.34:1
Final Drive 4.31:1 4.15:1

Just out of curiosity, what part number did you use for the aplication since the bB was never offered in a manuel transmission? Was it part number DBT1621, cause it seems to be the only one I can think that would work with the application?

those are the Echo/Vitz transmission gears...
i was talking about the final drive gears...4.31 or 3.72 or 3.52
the TRD's are 4.05 or 3.77
