Default people told me it would happen and it did

I was rollin down the street minding my own business and all of a sudden BAM

My car went to full dump at 40mph talk about scared , I had my lil boy in the car and he started crying,
my undercarriage was dragging not to mention my tires were being shredded by the fender wells, I could barely turn
the damn thing.

Now the question is why??/

I got it pulled to the side of the road and noticed my compressor stopped pumping, it was hot as HELL!! I couldn't even touch it, then after looking everything over I realized my main line from the pump to the tank burst.

I had to walk to NAPA at the airport from Rockville and Lynhurst with my boy in tow to get a new line. About a 3 mile walk

I replaced the line and I guess my pump had enough time to cool down (thank god for thermal overload protection) sat and waited until the tank filled up and then I was on my way.

Air bags are fun!!!

Time to make an emergency kit.

That's scary, what if it had happened in a turn or something...

I don't think I want to bag my ride now.

It's a good reminder of some of the pitfalls...

The main thing is that you nor your son were seriously hurt. I think I'll stick to my coilovers since I had som custom springs made.

Glad to hear everyone is ok.

But why did it drop completely? We just did an AirRide system on a friends car and there are individual purge valves on each bag. For all 4 to dump at once unexpectedly there'd have to be a problem with the main pressure control module.?

I agree, a failed compressor line shouldn't have caused the car to drop suddenly. Really for all the vavles to dump unexpedily youd have to have a short in the switch wires. depends on your setup really though.

I still have faith in my suspension, I should of been running a braided line instead of that crappy DOT rubber line.

I guess it really didn't drop suddenly not like when I pancake or anything, but it was pretty damn quick, now that the line has been replaced I have no shorts, leaks or problems.

I guess youve never had a problem with a large leak behind your valves before huh?

Its completely normal. Most valves need a certain amount of backpressure to keep them air tight. For instance, I can open up my drain on my water seperator or the drain in teh tank and the tank pressure obviously drops. Along with the tank pressure, if the car is parked in the up position the car will slowly go down as well.

another example- I had the airline come out of my right front strut while hitting a huge bump in an exit ramp at 60mph and that was scary... The line came out just enough to make the air leak quickly but I managed to hit the switch in time to start flowing air from the tank into to keep it up enough to get through the ramp. While holding the switch for that corner I got onto the highway and was trying to make the next gas station. The compressor obviously kicked on since I was constantly wasting air into that cylinder and slowly but surely the whole car started dropping due to the air tank losing pressure. I barely made it to the gas station in time to put the line back into the fitting.

I always keep a 30 ft roll of line coiled up under my seat as well as extra teflon, adj wrenches, spare fittings. Its a must.

damn i'm soo on the line about coilovers or air. hmm. i like the instant adjustable ride height of bags but coils seem safer , hmm. i just don't know.

Ahhh backpressure, gotta love it. I once dragged a small hole in one of my tanks on my s10 and didnt realize it. As soon as that tank went dry the whole truck dropped to the ground. Not fun, but thats bags for you. You never know when something might happen.

air is as reliable as anything else. i have not had the first problem with my setup. the only reason people have problems is because it is not done right.

the problem with your setup is you should have a checkvalve between the tank and you valves, that keeps the constant pressure for your valves to stay closed even if your tank drains.
