question about cutting bump stops for spring install
hey whats up guys
i got my goldlines put in today and the site says to cut 1" off the front bump stops
we decided to leave them uncut to help save the struts a little more (more bumpstop)
question
will this have any effect on the stance of the car... like will the springs not sit at the correct height due to the bumpstops not being cut
is there any things that could go wrong due to the bumpstops not being cut
thanx alot

I had a 2" drop with stock struts originally and never cut the bump stops. Since then, I've blown the stockers and I have the TRD struts and still haven't cut the bumpstops, don't plan too either. I've never heard them hit. 1" doesn't seem like anything; I've heard to cut them in half if you're going to do it.

The bumpstops are for the other end, they won't effect ride height. They can affect ride quality tho. They act as a cushion between the body of the strut and the top of the arm. Without a bumpstop there, if you hit something that compresses your suspension to the full travel, the top of the arm would smack against the body of the strut. This would be loud, rough and potentially damaging to the strut. The bumpstops act like a cushion - they are like the Dr. Scholl's Gel Inserts in your shoes, cushioning between your foot and the shoe. When you installed your springs, you shortened the length of the strut travel. If you leave them uncut, when the strut reaches full travel(which is now 2 inches less), they will hit the bumpstops, but now it has a shortened travel distance so you may be bouncing off of them quite frequently, depending on your driving habits, road conditions, vehicle load, etc. Hitting the bumpstops isn't the end of the world but can get annoying if it happens often. I probably wouldn't take them off again just to cut it, but if you're up in there again for something or if you start to have issues with bouncing off them, then you may want to revisit this...
