Default Quick ? for people with OTG Shims .

Ive been reading over all the threads about it but cant find my answer....

My new rims are .93 inches past the fender in the rear. I need to know if the OTG shims will bring me back the 1" at the top that I need to tuck them when I drop my car to the ground.

My appreciated.

I assume you are talking about the camber shims and not the regular spacers?

Even with the camber shims I don't think it will work. I did a quick estimation of a 8" wide, 24" tall tire and set it 0.93" outside of the fender line. Rotating about the midpoint at the back of the tire plane it still wasn't enough to pull the top of the tire back enough to tuck. And if I am not mistaken, the OTG shims push the hub out slightly as well.

Even if I made the pivot point the bottom of the inside of the tire plane and rotated from there, the tire clears the outside of the fender by only about 1/4". But doing this moves the center of the back of the tire plane inward 5/8"! And I think we are both smart enough to know that this is impossible without some pretty extensive fabrication. You may... MAY be able to pull it off if you could get Van to build you a set of 6+ degree shims. But even then I wouldn't count on it.

I really think at this point your best bet is selling the wheels and buying a set that will tuck.

James, if you are referring to the spacer "shims", they are only 10mm, and will push you out. If its the 3 degree negative camber shims, I don't think its going to be enuff to tuck the tire. And then, if it was, you would need some serious rolling of the fender lip.

What's the width/offset? Sound lke 8", -12 or 9", 0 offset....is that close? I don't think OTG camber shims (-3 degrees) will bring the tops of your rims back behind the fender.

Not entirely sure, though, I'd need to know the specs, but I think it is still possible to tuck tire AND have the rims be flush (VIP style). You will need a combination of: stretched tires, *at least* a -5 degree camber shim, and fenders rolled flat and pulled....

You seem like a great fabricator, why dod you pull and roll your fenders?

The car is going to the body shop Feb 1st I just need to make a list of what needs to be done. So in sense Im tyring to figure out how far the camber shim will bring the top of the wheel in so I know what to tell my body guy.

Basically my new wheels are 15x8 over all height should be around 20" with the tire on it.

So 10" from center up with the shims brings the top of the wheel/tire inward about? .5" ? That all I really need to know.

What do you guys out there with 15s think it borught your tire in about?

Thanks for the help so far guys, Im not much of throwing on parts from places kinda guy Im a cut it up and make it work kinda person.... just trying to gain knowledge on the product to try and save me some time if possible.

I could easily cut my rear torsion bar up shorten its width 2"s and be done it but a $60 part would seem to be a little easier considering my time frame I have to get my car done by.

Thanks again..... James

Some simple trigonometry should help you find the exact figures, but in my ROUGH visual estimation, the OTG camber shims push the top of a stock height (24in) tire about about 7-10mm. A smaller diameter like 20in would be pushed in even less.

Narrower tires could help add more clearance.....BTW, what size tires are you running with 20" diameter?
