Rear disk?

Rear disk?
Is it possible to do a rear disk for the xB other than an extremely expencive, and imo, overkill big brake kit? Any donor car (goin back to my honda days) that will bolt up to the xB rear assy? Thanks!

nothing bolts up...and you would loose the parking brake if you go with the BBK inthe rear.
and for looks, the drum is easier to keep clean and it performs better than disk....(how many big rigs do you see running disc's??)

not saying the xB is a race car, but its not a big rig either, it weighs less than the late celica gts

here's the old thread about the kits, and concerns... still looking for the tech writeup of the actual DIY conversion...

and for the race cars...did you ever see what their brakes are made of...not the typical steel rotors...they have cooling systems for the brakes...they will toss out the parts after a race...if you tried to do what race cars do...your brakes would glaze over, the pads would catch fire and you would crash from system failure.
i am not saying disc brakes don't work. i am saying that drums are getting a bad rap. they are a very solid and efficent system.
you can have a larger swept area with drums. they perform just as well (if not better) in most conditions. the only reason i am hearing on why they should be changed is they look ugly.

think of how many little parts there are in the drum setup...springs, pins, shoes, backing plates, clips.........
more than double of a disc setup. and you have to pay the wages of the person putting them together....and then they ned to be adjusted before use....
this make drums more expensive than disc from the manufacture standpoint.

maybe just the drum. but if you look at the whole system and all the little parts and assembly time...drums cost more.

Besides, if it were cheaper, every xA, xB, Echo, Yaris, Corolla, Civic, Foucus, ect., ect. would have rear discs.

consider ALL the factors and the drums are more expesive. more labor, more parts, more machining...
but whatever...you think what you like, i'm comfortable in my knowledge (and experiecnces).

The DISC vs DRUM discussion has intrigue me so I did some search on the web. Here's one article I found. Check it out ...

good find proves it once and for all
anybody remember the really old school mini's
they use to race with 4 wheel drums
makes a good point that not to many people think about, 60-90% of the brake power of a car is coming from the front disks
