Default Rough Ride, Smoother ideas?

Hey all.......

I have a 2006 XA. I have 17" rims, TRD Shocks kit and hotchkis sway bars all installed and the car rides like crap. I feel every crack and rock I run over. I hit a pot hole and the car goes insane...steering wheel has its own mind! I can't drive without both my hands on the wheel because even a hump in the road causes the car to turn left/right. I'm thinking it was a mistake to do this......Any suggestions? Maybe a different shock kit? Get rid of sway bars?

Any help would be great!!!!!

I don't have any aftermarket springs. Is that my problem? If so, which springs should I get? Any help most appreciated?

Smaller wheels with a bit more tire on them would help alot, otherwise try to get some monroe shocks. Alot of the xb guys are doing that with good results.

Stock Suspension and tires. Any modifications to your suspension will make it stiffer and if you do bigger wheels and smaller tires then its just a trade off that you have more "feel" of the road. I have been running 18's with 35 series tires and tein s-techs. I felt every bump before I even hit it!

I just changed to 15x8s with 195/55/15's and they have helped alot with the feeling of bumps and cracks.

17s aren't really that bad for the ride.
The TRD shocks are stiffer than the stock ones.

Recheck your alignment and make sure your wheel offset is close to stock since you didn't lower the car. Both can cause twitchiness in the steering.

thanks for all your comments. I had an alignment and had it checked twice. I really believe it has to do with the rims. I just recently had them installed, so I don't wanna get new ones. I'll probably wait a year, get 15" and try different shocks and springs. Which are the best springs?

Light car...stiff shocks..low tires....hard ride...Try going with cheap shocks...the ones that have no little or no rebound. (not gas filled)

right now I have trd springs monroe shocks trd sway and es endlink bushings.

the monroes might help a bit, but what seems to really help the steering not be so twitchy was the endlink bushings (20 min install)

I compromised on the wheels. I wanted 17s but the ride I feared was going to be too stiff so I went with 16's.

Try to remove the sway, that transfers bump from one side to the other

I agree with Ian. Swap out the TRDs (re sell them on here) with some Monroes all around and get some mild springs like Tein H techs. Ride will be smooth man.
BTW, what size tires ya got on those 17's? If you are running 205/40's bump them up to 215/40s. It will give a much better ride.
