I'm curious about this. Slotted and drilled rotors eat break pads faster and provide a little more stopping power, but is it worth it? Would it be better to go with an oversized rotor kit?

Powerslot makes slotted only rotors. I have them, I highly recomend them, with a good set of semi metallic pads, synthetic DOT 4 brake fluid and steel braided lines. I run the canyons alot with this set up and I had my brakes glowing a few times and I still DID NOT HAVE ANY BRAKE FADE!

No, don't waste your money. Aggressive pads, slotted rotors, SS lines, and high quality fluid is all the xB needs in the braking department.

Stay away from BBK kits and drilled rotors.

big brake kits reduce your stopping distance due to larger mass of the rotor. a larger caliper that clamps more on your rotor will stop your car faster.

It has been proven time and time again, that big brake kits are not necessary for the xB. Upgrading the stock pads, lines and brake fluid as listed above can provide greatly improved braking without the exorbitant cost and drawbacks of a big brake kit.

I think even if I were to run some big heavy cast 20s I would upgrade the stock brakes and not even consider doing a bbk.

On much larger, heavier vehicles big brake kits serve a purpose beyond aesthetics. But on the xB, the looks are the only real reason to buy them. Similar braking characteristics can be had for much less. And those modifications do not require a consumer to "plus size" their wheels.

as stated above, a great set of brake pads and brake fluid will go a long way. companies like porterfield, ferodo, carbotech, etc. make great performance replacement pads that can be used for spirited street or full race compounds. as far as brake fluid goes, ATE Super Blue works wonders to reduce the chances of fluid boil-over.

IMO, go with good pads and brake fluid first. most times you may not even need the rotors unless your stocks can't be resurfaced. remember when getting x-drilled or slotted rotors they're not made to be resurfaced (some ghetto shops will try it though but it will increase chances of the rotor cracking/failing).

I frequently canyon race my xB. People hate driving behind me because my brakes work good! All I have are Powerslot rotors, Earl's SS Brake Lines. Motul RBF 600 DOT4 Brake Fluid, and some no name semi metallic pads. I got Axis Ultimates going in next! I gurantee my set up will brake just as good if not better than any xB with a big brake kit, especially anyone with a rear kit.

Many thanks for the comments on the BBK. I'll be going with the cheaper route as long as I can get my calipers coated. How hard are the SS break lines to install?

to all the haters of BBK's....do you know what 'swept area' is?
the only way to increase this is with a BBK.

sure, all of the other ideas will help breaking. they are still nothing compared to a BBK.

i applaud you for increasing the performance of your car. even the cheaper routes will give you noticable increases.

good luck with your project.

you know that adding a BBK to your car will kill some HP due to the rotational mass being further away from the hub right?

BBKs are a waste.

Vivid Racing carries the Agency Power front and rear SS brake lines.

http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/v...1844_1713_3083

I checked the Earl's website and couldn't find a listing for our application. You may want to ask the poster in this thread who mentioned them to find out what parts he used to get his Earl's SS brake lines.

i just bought a set off ebay. the seller sells just drilled , just slotted , or both but you have to specify when you win the auction.

Quick Reply: slotted rotors???
