TRD struts and shocks with other brand drop springs
I have Vogtland springs (40-45 mm drop, progressively wound, ride great) but am looking at getting the TRD shock/strut package to go with it. I am refinancing my car, getting an extended warranty and can probably get this package as well as the TRD rear swaybar so I am not interested in any other brands...
Can anybody who has actually used these shocks/struts with a lowering springs give me some feedback on ride control, bumpiness and general ride quality.
Just because I have seen arguements about misunderstandings so many other threads-I AM TALKING ABOUT THE TRD STRUTS AND SHOCKS ONLY-NOT TRD SPRINGS.
Thanks

WOW-somebody else with vogs!
I feel like I am the only one that talks about them for the xB.
I have rear TRD shocks. Very nice.
I am not sure I know what progressively wound means....is that how they come?
Do you really think they are that low? 45mm seems extreme.

Progressively wound springs will compress perhaps 70 pounds for the first inch, 85 pounds for the second inch, 100 pounds for the third inch, and 120 pounds for the fourth inch. This particular spring would be called a 70 / 120 progressive. The idea here is to make your suspension a little softer for small bumps, and firmer for larger bumps. The progressive springs operate at their lowest weight rating until the closest wound coils bind, then as more and more coils bind, they progressively switch to their high weight rating. Progressive springs allow you to have relatively soft springs for the first inch or so to give a very smooth ride, and very firm springs for the last few inches to give solid handling and absorb large bumps. There is a suspension company called "Progressive Suspension" which manufactures shock absorbers and fork springs, but other companies also have progressively wound springs.

I love the Vogtlands-progressively wound means that they have a spring rate that is rising so the start medium-soft and then ramp up to firm so the harder they are pressed they firmer they get. It's expensive to do but gives a superior ride as far as comfort and performance at the same time and it also firms up quick under full compression so it doesn't bottom out.
The 45 mm is about what I got-they were supposed to only drop it 40mm (roughly 1.3 inches) but mine dropped somewhat farther.
That's awesome to hear that the set-up works-I was super impressed with the springs-it actually rides smoother and easier than stock for me-I think my shocks are going and didn't want to go with the monroes because even though they ride soft I have heard that serious drivers are unimpressed when they actually push their cars.

I have KONI in the front. I really feel it dropped down a bit more in front after I got the struts installed.
If you shop around a bit you can do better than Monroes for the same price. Not that anything is wrong with Monroes.
What did you pay for the Vogs?

TRD shocks are made by another company that also sells them for the xB. Same exact ones. Different labeling. Same color too. I just can't think of the name. You can get those a little cheaper. Someone help me with the brand.

I got the TRD/Waydo for 60 bucks new on ebay.
And the Koni struts for 80 bucks new on ebay.
Vogtland for $140 on, yes. ebay. I wait and wait for the bargains.
I just saw a TRD rear swaybar go for less than 100 dollars. I think it is gone. I did not have time to even consider it.

Got springs from ebay too-$151 including shipping.
I am refinancing my car through the Toy/Scion dealer so I am adding the swaybar and shocks at the same time. Getting an extended warranty too.
Somebody said the TRD front struts lower it about 1/2 inch-that would be cool, I think mine is about 1/2 inch too high in the front-or 1/2 inch too low in the rear-just slightly not level.

I understand with the refinanacing.
I just hate to see them take you to the cleaners.
Here is one for $119 total.

I wonder what you are gonna have to pay?

$171 over the counter sway bar TRD
I can't discuss the price on the shocks/struts because of sensitivity with price but they are a pretty descent deal-installing them myself-that was a huge chunk of change I don't want to spend.

To be honest I believed Vogtland. I really think they mislead about the actual drop. I called them direct after buying them and got conflicting info. Things like "you really wont have to replace the shocks/struts because the drop is not that severe. You really have to in order to appreciate them, especially after they settle.
