Default Warranty question...

Will dropping my xB negate my manufacturer's warranty? If so, is there any way to circumvent that? I just wanna fill my wheelwells, but if I can do so without dropping the car, then I'm happy.

Get the TRD springs. They won't void your warranty.

I paid $450 for my TRD springs, including dealer installation, and they are a 1" drop. As you might see in some other posts, they are very stiff (and that's an understatement, lol).

aftermarket springs will not void your warranty. unless the dealer can PROVE that your springs caused whatever problem you are trying to cover under warranty!

my tanabes were $178 + shipping, and i installed myself in less than an hour for free.

Default What does it mean...

When springs are stiff, or vice-versa? I'm not exactly sure how I want the ride to feel because I've never driven a dropped vehicle. What can you guys tell me?

just drive more cautiously, pay more attention to the road and what is in front of you. example- don't hit a speed bump at 25 straight on. and don't play hit the biggest pot hole you can see for 1000 pts.

Default I got a friend...

Who says he can get the TRD springs at just over cost and install them for me without voiding the warranty. Does TRD make anything other than 1.25" drop? I'm looking for 1.5.

you can install anything on the car you want and it won't void the warranty. Toyota WILL NOT however cover the modified component of the vehicle or anything related to it if something goes wrong. so if you put springs on that aren't TRD and the engine falls out one day, they'll put the engine back in. but if you turbo the damn thing and blow a piston don't expect them to cover it.

Default Just TRD my box

PSquared,

I just lowered my Xb with TRD springs, check out:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4640

and

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4399

My springs have not settled in yet, but I am loving the ride. It's not as bouncy as the stock springs. It's my understanding the TRD are 10% stiffer than the stock springs.

If you look at the pic's that Gabe posted, most of the guys have a 2" drop in the photos.

I followed up two days later with 17" rims 215/45/17 and no rub. Over all I like the ride a lot.

Oh, I picked up the springs from:

http://toyotapartsworld.com/toyperf_scion.htm

$151 plus shipping. The other BIG got ya is dealers cost to install. I had quotes for 3 hours for the front and two hours for the back all of the way down to 3 hours (which was my best dealer quote. $700 to $310. Gabe put them (front and back) in 1/2 an hour with a lift $60 plus pizza and soda's. So see if any of the locals can help you out on the installation. Or come out to CA and Gabe will toss em in. It would be another reason for a met.

Default re...

First off, I'm in Miami, so it'd be a LONG drive to Cali to get my car dropped. ; )

What I'm REALLY trying to find out is:
1) What can I do withOUT voiding my warranty?

2) how can I fill my wheel wells without dropping my box 2"?

Thanks...

Any and all modification to your car can void your warranty to include an alarm. If you have a good relationship with your dealer and don't go in demanding, most dealers will work with you. Bill

Actually, only the part of the warranty that the aftermarket affects. And only if that's what's proven to of caused the problem.

To fill your wheelwells obviously would require a larger diameter tire. Besides screwing up the speedo/odometer, I would imagine this would inflict stresses outside of the design perameters of the entire drivetrain.

I was where you are a month ago........ do I really want to take a chance and screw-up something by doing a 2" drop???
Well I told myself, "self, you only live once so strap on some ***** and just do it! Screw-it, if something goes wrong down the road I'll deal with then"
Today I had some Gold-Line springs installed for $200!!!! (To bad ur not in so. cal., Jody @ DB Motorsports is the master!!)

Just my $.02

Is it a bad idea to cruise around on the goldlines for a about two months before adding custom wheels?

I don't see any harm in it. Jody told me any time you drop a car the camber is going to change very slightly and then after getting rims & tires would be a good time to take it in for an adjustment.

Scion Dealer, although they'll probably charge you because of the mod.

BTW, is your steering wheel off-center to left like 5 degrees? Mine was and the dealer did a front-end alignment and adjusted the toe-in a month ago at no charge, now my wheel is straight. This is a known issue with scion.
