15" vs. 18"

Yes, the only "advantage" is looks.
If you can survive without looking like you stole the wheels off a Conestoga wagon, the lighter, better riding, pot-hole-surviving 15 inch wheels and tires are more practical.
It's a matter of looks and being different just like everyone else.

Yea, that's pretty much it. The 18 inch wheels will look nicer. You would also generally put a little wider tire than you would on the stock rims (though you could buy different 15 inch wheels) which could help handling since you would have more grip.
The disadvantages are that 18 inch wheels will generally weigh much more and the ride will be harsher.
From a pure performance standpoint, you would probably be best buying lightweight 15 inch wheels.
For looks, you would have to decide what size you would want. Most people would like 18 inch wheels alot better than 15 inch wheels in appearance.
You could also get 16 or 17 inch wheels which might be a good compromise.

17" wheelsand tires are a good compromise. They are cheaper than 18's and ride a little better. My father's favorite saying was "It's like the old lady that kissed the cow--it's all a matter of taste"

I the largest I would go on a box is a 16" wheel with a 205/50-16 or a 225/45-16 tire. I would rather stick with a 15" wheel & some 205/55-15 or 225/50-15 tires. They're tall enough to save your wheels from most potholes, but still low enough to handle well. (^_^ )
