Default 16" Tire Size Question

After looking over the Wheel/Tire FAQ, I see some members using some 16" tire sizes that seem to be pretty far off from the stock diameter.

185/60/15 Difference
195/50/16 0.30%
205/45/16 2.03%
205/50/16 1.38%
205/55/16 4.55%

How come no one runs 195/50/16? It is definately the closest to stock. There aren't as many tire options, but still some good choices from Kumho, Michelin, Dunlop, etc. according to Tirerack.

I think it just depends on the individual's setup and preference....

....Some people want a little more sidewall, so they try to stay close the diamter of the JDM bB stock tire size which is 185/65/15. Some people need less sidewall for fender clearance due to offset and/or ride height. Some people have really wide rims, and need wider tires. Some people just want the cheapest and/or more widely available size.

205/50's are the reccommended size by TireRack.com

They're actually very close to stock height. And only run 0.6% faster than the stock 195/60/15's

195/60/16's are smaller than the stockies, and the 205/50/16's, therefore when your speedo says 60, you're only going 58 or 2.2% faster then stock.

Ok, so now I'm confused because the scion website lists 185/60/15 as the stock tire size on the xB. Scion.com xB Feature List

Normally I would just check my car, but I haven't gotten my xB yet(hopefully coming next week). So what is the actual stock tire size 195/60/15 or 185/60/15?

Stock size for USDM Scion xB is 185/60/15.
Stock size for JDM Toyota bB is 185/65/15.

185/60/15 realy rare tire... only found on scions and neons adn some mazdas... a 195/60/15 won't hurt either: the car is equipted with auto calibration to a certain limit on tire size... thats why the rs1 comes with 205/40/17 why not run with 215/40/17??... 205/40/17 compared to 185/60/15 is 1.2% to fast... so your speedo says 60 you doin 59.3 BUT a 215/40/17 compared to a 185/60/15 is 0.1% to slow so 60 is 60.1... thats why toyota used 205/40/17... has auto calibration... so a toyota/scion tech has told me

Ok, so nobody has really answered my question. Why do you run 205/50/16's if it is further away from the stock diameter than 195/50/16's?

Was the stock tire size 195/60/15 prior to MY2006?

I thought I tried to answer your question

Stock size for USDM Scion xB is and always has been 185/60/15. Stock size for JDM Toyota bB is 185/65/15. It doesn't hurt to err on the plus side since JDM OE diameter is larger.

In my case specifically, I have wide rims, so I needed as wide a tire that I could fit under my fender. I chose 205/50/16 which happens to be smack dab in the middle of JDM and USDM stock diameters.

Hope that answers your question...

I'm looking at wheels/tires for my xB as well and pulled informationa and calculations from other threads and created an Excel spreadsheet. You enter the wheel and tire sizes and it will tell you whether or not you are within 3% of "stock" tire height. PM me with any additions or questions.....

Thanks stan.

I'm just confused why you even metion the JDM tire size, when all of our cars(speedo & odometer) are calibrated for the US tire size.

I read that you can run a 195/50/16 on a 7" wide wheel. So why would you want to introduce an extra 1% of error into your mph & mileage by running a 205/50/16?

From what I have heard the calibration of the Speedometer and Odometer is identical from JDM to USDM. However, each market has their specific stock tire size.
