17x8.5", +25offset. 205/40, 215/40? HELP.
Well the wheels are finally done.
I'm kinda getting impatient and trying to mount
the rims tomorrow before work.
Rico gave me helpful info about the different
sizes and such, but I just need a final word/choice
before I actually go to the shop and buy the tires.
what are your thoughts, ups and downs about these sizes?
215/45 - possibility they'll rub right?
215/40 - what do you think? shops says thats my best bet.
now, 205/40. thats what i want.
shop says they'll drop my car a lil lower.
that size is friggin' tiny compaired to the rims.
dude at the shop said my lip has a bigger chance of getting
scuffed, curbed and all that bad crap with those tires....YES?
dont want that to happen so....205/40 or 215/40!?
thank you in advance!

Depending how low you are your going to have to roll your fender's and run camber plates in front which ever tire you run so stick with 215x40 to avoid scratching your rims. I'm running 215x40x17 on 17x7 25offset and dropped on Blitz coilovers.

If it was me Zach, 215/40-17s. Nice mild stretch, yet still have some protection from the tire for the rim itself. Shouldn't have any rubbing issues except maybe the rear fender lip depending on drop.
But then again, I'm no expert. I do have 215/40-17s on my 17x7.5 Buddy Clubs.

BUT, if its not a daily driver/commuter, and you have nicely paved roads, and want to go wild, then go w 205/40-17 if a shop has a blaster to fill the tires. And you gotta be slammed w/ camber.
I have crappy roads and my xB is driven 160 miles daily when I go back to work, thus the 215/40 recommendation.
Nice looking wheels BTW!

2tone, those 205/35/18's....scary thin....each bump, hole, dip in the road was a cringer....without EXTREMELY EXTREMELY careful driving, it would result in damaged rims, and I'm not talking about just the lips...wheel warp.
You probably use you car as a daily driver...I wouldn't go 205,

thank Brand and fachiro.
just asked Matt (sarcasm) about his ride with 16x9, 205's.
i guess it does matter how you drive, where you drive and such.
but yeah, the xB is a daily driver. drive about 50-100miles a
day depending.
and roads here in Orlando...diZam.
especially the road i take everyday is
a lip damage, warp magnet.
my pops and sister tend to cruise
around in the xB from time to time...so that'll be pretty scary.
hah.
THANKS ya'll!

2tone, an't remember off the top of my head how wide your rims r.
Of all the people that I have asked, and it's been a lot on these forums..(thanks people!!!!) everyone with an 8" wide rim (edit: and low offsets!) and at least an s-tech drop required some rolling or trimming of the rear fenders.
The other thing is, you got a very nice set of new wheels there; you're probably going to drive carefully with them regardless of what tire size you get, but getting the 215 definitely helps.
I think your box is going to look spectacular, truly one of a kind with a custom wheel paint job to boot. Ca't wait to see it.

thank you!
8.5" is the width. and see'ing 205/40's in person,
those are skinny junks. its like the size of my thighs, haha.
drive carefully and watch out for debris...check.
my S-Tech's kinda settled, so i woud say 2" drop.
i may cut some of the fender? not sure if thats safe, but i'll see.
didnt you get equips?
thanks again ya'll.

I recommended somethin in between...
...205/45 = a more aggressive stretch, less rubbing than a 215/45, and still slightly taller than stock tol fill out your gap
...215/40 = a mild stretch, less rubbing than 215/45, and the gap would not as bad as 205/40
Since your gonna be rolling your fenders, it sounds to me 215/40 would be best for your situation, and they'll still work great if you upgrade to coilovers later....now go get tires!!!
Oh, FYI, and I used to have 205/40 17x8 +25, and the gap was pretty big with Goldlines - but I had no rubbing whatsover with about 5mm to spare....I'll try to dig up some old pics if you want....

Yeah 2TOne, Equip 03's with the crazy 10 rear offset, s-techs...rubin' rubin', I tried to rol the fender but it turned out crappy so I had them cut. It turned out very clean and hasn't rubbed since. I driven probably at least 500 miles since freeways, local roads....no fender ripples or souinds or anything like that. There's a probably about a 1/4 inch left of the fender lip, no paint chipping or anything like that.
Like Rich and others have said, trimming is no big deal if you have to have it done. Just have someone that has done it before or that has experience do it.
