OK, first post in Wheel & Tire...
I have a line on some Motegi RT5 rims/tires. They are 17x7, 42 offset with 215/45 Falken ZE512.
1) My question is will they work on my box stock xB?
2) Is the 42 offset going to rub-front or rear? Chassis or fenders?
3) Will they rub if I get lowered in the future?
Thanks!
BTW, I read through https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=348 but only saw 215/45 on 17's with a 38 offset. Those "seem" to be fine. Is that 42 offset a no-go? I did not see anything with over a 40 offset.
edit: Do I need hubcentric rings? answer:Yes!
edit 9/24: offset is 42 not 45, rim is RT5 not FF5.

I am runing with 17X7.5 +45offset, 215 40 17 tires. My wheels are a little wider than yours, so your mileage may vary. In order to get mine to fit on the rear, I installed OTG Hub spacers and they just cleared the rear swing arm. On the front, I put on 5mm spacers and it clears just fine, not sure I had to have the front spacers or not, but I am running them. As far as lowering is concerned, I'm not lowered -- yet, so I am not sure. I don't expect any rubbing, but I am only planning to lower 1.5".

Hey, thanks for the replies.
I looked under there and there is only about one finger space between the tire and swing arm. According to 1010tires.com, the setup sticks back 0.9" further.
GAWBox, what size spacers did you run? I am thinking I need around 15~20 to clear and push the tire out more flush.

I used OTG Hub Spacers (10mm) on the rear. These are differnt than normal wheel spacers as they push the Hub out -- not the Wheel. No need to use longer wheel studs.
I ended up with enough room to stick my pinkie between my tire and the swing arm. Pretty close, but it works. You have the option to stack two of these spacers for up to 20mm of space. I don't know if this would push you out far enough to cause rubbing on the fender. There are other solutions to that problem -- and I did not want to deal with them. (rolling the fender or cambering the back wheels)

I'm running 215/45/17 Toyo Proxes 4 and 17x7 Konig Holes with a 45mm offset. The suspension on my box is completely stock, and I'm NOT HAVING ANY ISSUES WHATSOEVER! I'm very very happy with this setup, the only reason I'm thinking about getting spacers is to make the rear wheels sit flush with the front.

Just installed my new wheels! Thanks to all for the tips and advice!
Motegi RT5, 17x7, 42 offset with Falken Ziex 215/45-17 tires. Happy to say that there is zero rubbing, no spacers needed. Full lock turns are fine. There is 1/8"-3/16" between the tire and swingarm. No need to grind the tooling boss off the swingarm.
Two things...the setup is only 1" in diameter difference or 1/2" taller ride height but the car looks really tall now. Needs a drop! And I am thinking of OTG 10mm rear hub spacers too. The front looks so good now, the rears could stand to push out more. Looks like plenty of room for 10mm, probably could go 20mm without too much trouble.
Ride is similar to stockers. Maybe slightly stiffer @40psi, but not a day/night difference. No freeway or potholes yet though.
Sure looks better!
