also forgot to mention I don't know what the inside of your stainless trim rings look like but the ones I ordered through aoutozone for 60 dollars have individual contact points all the way around the stainless steel ring they actually still make them like they did in the 60's and as soon as my lugnuts get here I will install everything I took my rims and had them powdercoated black today for 85 bucks by a friend now all I need is the tercel center caps to cover the lugs and I am in buisness I am also working on some baby moons as an alternative I went through about 20 pairs at the junkyard to see if they would fit I am just going to keep trying until I find soem that fit if I can then I will list them . whoever came up with this mod is a genious I think the steelies look beter than aftermarket wheels by far and the retrolook is smooth and affordable. my praise goes to the person who did all the legwork so that we can all enjoy this DIY thank you very much.

I did mine today of course i would recomend clear silicone inside the center caps they went on loose on two of the wheels. I found eagle never dull woks better then mothers. and teh stainless ones I ordered from autozone two inch deep bueaty ring is desighned like the ones in the sixties they have tabs all the way around the whole ring I don't know if all the rings are like this but i found it suprising just waighting on the lugnuts now from brandsport.

I kinda think the 15's are just the right size with the right tire and the right suspension it is smooth and I think the retro look is coming back fast I know I am so tired of seeing American racing rims and montegi and 20inch and bigger crome rims to me it's just ugly. I like the old look and I am very much greatful somone had the insight to bring it back and share the knowledge with us. I cannot say thank you enough. people see the steelies and see that you put some work into them and some thought instead of just slapping on a rim and you get more respect. I think I would only rather have a set of volk or work wheels which nobody ever really runs anywway. or maybe some racingheart 3 piece but instead of spending all that cash on rims thanks to the steelies that ash is now going elsewhere into pacific ethanol stock since bill gates just bought most of the company I think I'm gonna make me some cash cha ching. thanks again.

So do you paint the steelies black, or just clean 'em up real nice? Also, any preference/advantage between Stainless Steel and Chrome?

I just polished mine up didn't do any painting except for krylon true clear acrilic on the center caps and some clear silicone to make sure they don't come off. stainless steel is the way to go I ordered mine through autozone and was extremely suprised at the quality they have rim contact points all the way around the ring which is the way they were made in the 60's and a buddy of mine has some I don't know where he got his but they don't have the same type of contact points and his fall off from time to time so he used a small drop of clear silicone on each one to keep it from falling off semmes to be working well and the gorilla lugnuts from brandsport on clearance for 21 dollars for the whole car set was an outstanding buy.

I hit mine with some rubbing compound then waxed them. I went stainless on the rings to avoid the inevitable rust with chrome ones. They were only a little more than chrome anyway. I'm loving the look and can't wait till I need tires so I can get some white letter and wider tires.
To keep the center caps on better I put a small strip of aluminum tape around the inside lip so it fits tighter around the center edge. I polished them up with a buffing wheel and some Mothers metal polish. They are as shiney as the chrome lugs.

i know this is a stupid question but how can I remove the hubcaps? I tried a flat head but the hubcaps are attached very tightly. Any suggestions and tips will be appreciated, thanks!

I only remove the caps with the wheel removed from the car. I use a piece of 2X2 and tap it from behind with the palm of my hand and they pop right off. Just do it squarly as to not dent the cap. Be ready to catch the cap so it doesn't go shooting across the floor.

Gotta agree, any fool can drop $500+ for rims that everybody else has, but the dressed-up steel look just kills.
Best mod I've done so far! I might just have to white-letter these tires while I'm at it.
