205/50-17
I too am interested in the 205/50 -17 set up. I have 215/45-17 now, and i'm looking for a bit smoother ride, and also a bit taller gearing for the highway. Anyone ever run these? I also have bent a lot of rims on my previous car with /45 series tires, and /50 series tires seems to be the safe bet.
I am also assuming that taller profile tires will give better MPG. (so too will the taller gearing)
If they fit in the wheel wells, what are down sides of taller tires than stock?
- Speedo is off ( I can deal with that)
- Brakes aren't as strong (they are strong enough)
- Won't accelerate as quickly (Yeah, a concession I'll live with)
On the positive side:
- Smoother ride
- Better MPG
- Fills in the wheel wells better.
- Taller gearing not so buzzy on the freeway.
- Won't bend rims so easily.
Comments?

Hey all,
I have been offered Volk GT-A rims that are 17x7 with a +44 offset. I am getting 205/45R17 tires. I am also planning to drop my box on S-techs. I would like to know if anyone has a similar set up and will it rub or fit nicely?

That sounds like what I will be doing instead. What is your wheel offset? I'm just worried about the +44 on the Volks it might be a little tight. Looking at the first post of this thread it ranges between something like +30 - 40 tops. This is an offer I can't refuse esp. since these wheels are worth like $1500

Yeah thats what I was told and someone recommended 5 mm spacers. I might not drop it at all depending on how it fills the wheel well. I see too many xb1's with rims that are too far from the body and it looks weird without a 1.5 - 2 inch drop.

im running wider tires than you will be and i have maybe 1/8 inch of space between the tire and suspension in the rear. As for the front, when turning the wheel completely to each side i have maybe 1/8 inch as well. Theres no need for spacers with a 17x7. As for the offset, I believe mine is either +42 or +44 I can't remember.

Your unknowns should fit no problem with plenty of clearance with the TRD springs from what I understand. Just worried about my set up.

You won't rub with any drop on those.
I'm running 17x7 et40 with 20mm spacers in back and I'm on DF210s, no problems whatsoever.
A 5mm spacer is barely going to be noticeable.
Also, I run the TRD drop in the winter, it's not much of a drop at all.

i don't know about anyone else, but i have had big issues with that stupid protrusion on the rear subframe rubbing any high offset wheel i've put on there without a spacer.
17x7 +43 will hit that stupid thing w/o a spacer. i think the minimum offset required will be around +38/+39. maybe someone else can speak on this for me. i haven't read this whole thread.

Yea, with a wheel of that high of an offset, there's the possiblity that you'll rub on the inside. I can't speak of personal experience, 40 was the lowest offset I've run and I've pretty much always had at least 10mm spacers in back.
