Default Do I need hub-centric rings? Or just rebalance?

I recently bought a 17" wheel and tire package from wheelsnext.com. With the new wheels on, the xB's steering wheel shakes when I am going over 60MPH. I have made sure that I don't have any loose lugs. I called wheelsnext and they suggested that I try hub-centric rings, but if I wanted to get the wheels rebalanced, if I fax them the invoice, they will credit me what they charged for the balancing.

The wheels are made by ADR.. I just want to know if I should get them rebalanced or if I really just need hub-centric rings for them.

Thanks!

You probably need hubcentric rings. I think ADR uses a 73.1mm centerbore and the xB is a 54.1mm. They're only about $15 dollars, so try that first. If it still shakes, then get them rebalanced.

You need the rings. Most rims require them. Suprisingly, Wheels Next doesn't even carry them!!! Good luck finding some.

That is why I chose to purchase my wheels and tires from The Tire Rack.

They were my 1st choice. I placed an order with them, and was told it would ship in the next 1-2 business days, and got a call the next morning that their inventory was wrong, and the wheels I wanted wouldn't be in for another 3-4 months(!!!). They did have nice customer service, but so did wheelsnext... I do feel kind of burned that they didn't mention that I would need the rings for my application though. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Anyone know of a good online vendor for the rings if I can't find someplace local that carries them? Ebay doesn't seem to have any scion/xB specific ones. Can anyone else verify that the xB has a 54.1mm hub?

The xB does have a 54.1 mm hub, and the ADR wheels do run 73 mm (I called ADR).

Hey man sorry you had bad luck with your wheels without hub centric rings. I almost bought from wheelsnext but when they said I didn't need hub rings and they don't sell them I started to wonder. Years ago I had wheels without hub rings and they sucked the whole time I had them because they didn't have those damn rings. You could try giving www.whalentire.com or www.tires.com a call and they should be able to hook you up with the rings you need. Once you get those rings you should be all set to go, good luck with your wheels!

The hubcentric rings made a huge difference. The shake is still there, but it is very minor. It might even be gone now that I have retightened the lugs after the 1st test drive.

Thanks again for all the input guys!

I had to machine my own hubcentric rings for my car since Im running a 6mm spacer on the front. Be happy you could just bolt them on!

ahhhh....i never knew it was kinda a hassle to use hubcentric rings when also using spacers. I thought it wouldn't matter at all.
