Default Federal Tires: Are they good or bad?

I have a set of federal tires on my aftermarket wheels and i am wondering if anyone knows anything about them. they are supposed to be medium to high quality tires but lately i have been having a problem with steering wheel vibrations after i had my tires rotated for the first time, and so far, no one can figure out what's wrong with it. (balancing has been done numerous times, wheels aren't bent, hub-centric rings were put on, aftermarket lug nuts were always on them, and so on... i posted that story in the tC general forum.)

anyway, how good are these tires?

i bet you have a tire that is out of round. It happens with all tire regardless of brand. I had a toyo t1-s that was out of round.

A side note with tires is you get what you pay for.

Out of round= The tires are no longer round. They may have a flat-spot, or a blister, or the tread may have separated.

btw: Federal Tires website has not been updated for at least a year. Hoover's says that the company is "poorly funded".
Nope, I don't think I would bet my life on their tires.

i hate to tell you but federal is not a tire i would choose. If they were not cheap it means ou got ripped off.
Damn i hate to see tire stores do this to good people. It is like you have to study just not to get ripped off. Best of luck with your rubber.

I'd just get new tires, if you can.

thanks guys. it's good to get other opinions on things. i'd just hate to buy new tires and then find out that i still have the problem. that's my only fear with that, other than having to spend the money. but i really don't think it is the wheels. it has to be the tires.

Pop the tires off the wheels and spin them. Make sure the wheels are round and balanceable.

I had Federal tires on my last set of rims and they were perfectly fine. Traction on wet and dry pavement was great, nothing to really complain about. Went on for a good 15k before I switched. Plus they only cost me about 120 for a set of four high performance summers.
