Default Help me decide on some tires PRETTY PLEASE!!

HEY ALL! Im torn between Kumho or Falken tires....

Im getting some 215/35/R18 tires for my TRD wheels............I refuse to pay $135 each fo some Pirelli P Zero Nero's- which are a non-directional all season any way.

What Im looking for is a QUITE summer tire. if you have good or bad luck with the tires i posted in the poll- LET ME KNOW!!!

The Kumhos are around $107 each, and the Falken around $115 each....

I have 205/40/17 Kumho ASX's on my truck and I love them, quiet but still a nice tread pattern.

You might also look into Dunlop FM901s, they are in that price range. I've had both FK-451s and 712s and both were noisy tires. I didn't like either.

I have the Falken Ziex ZE-512 and cant complain one bit. Quiet, handles well in wet and dry conditions. That would be my choice speaking from experience.

I have Falken Ziex ZE-512 too. I wanted Yoko ES100's because they ranked much better. But, I went for right now tire instead of right tire. My complaint about the falkins are they don't grip as well as I hoped and are worthless in wet. They are pretty quiet though. I wouldn't buy them again, so I can't recommend them.

(ain't opinions great?)

Oh, I'm on 16's too. Oh, and part of the reason I really wanted the Yoko's was because they were supposed to be very quiet.

Same here. I've had my Falkens long enough to use them in a few good snows too. They did really well in the snow, and like SUPASCIONXB said, they're great in the wet and dry. I don't really swear by Consumer Reports, but they rated the Falken Ziex ZE-512 #1 in the all-season performance catagory.

I have the Falken Ziex 512 and I love them, they grip well in the rain and snow. Very quiet for normal driving. I would recommend them highly.

wow. I took mine off early fall and just put them on for summer because I feared snow. No way they did well in snow judging from their free spinning spirit in the wet...

I have 16x7's and a low offset 25mm and lowered on H techs. The wear is even but, maybe, it's just me?

They ARE quiet though, so...

Nitto Neo-Gens love them due to the fact that they are asymmetrical in which you can flip them and rotate them just like stock. love em

Thanks all for all of the replies (KEEP THEM COMMING)

I have the stock tires for the winter months. So Im obviously not running 18's in the winter.

Snow/ice is not an issue then.......

I have had Falken on my Focus before ( they were ZIEX 626's I believe) - and I really liked them- they were a little noisy on rough pavement though.

So I think I have narrrowed my choices between the two falken.

the 512's are an "all season tire" while the beta's are a "summer" tire.

the 512's have a 360 treadwear rating, while the beta's have a 280 tread wear.

the 512's have a "A" rating traction, while the Beta's have a "AA" traction rating.

The Beta's are probably what im leaning too, I am just asking you all HOW NOISY ARE THEY!!!

I whould hate to get 18's that ROAR down the road!

My TRD 18's came with 225-40ZR18 Parada Spec-2. I love these tires and can't recommend them enough. They look mean and handle mean. They do great in the rain where the stock tires fell way short. When dry, they stick like glue. On the highway, they're quiet as a tomb.

from my experience with tires and on road course tracks and daily

-kumho's are fine for the first lap or two and they start to get greasey slick. ok tires for daily driving.

-yokohama es100 are decent tires but they seem to scar a lot faster.(not wear) decent for auto-x and daily

-falken sport (rt-s15) awesome grip great tires, but tend to be on the heavier side due to the thick sidewalls and comes wider then the noted size ie 205/50/16 are actually more like 215/50/16 and they become fairly loud after a lot of use due to the tread design

-falken st-115 uses similar compound as the sports. a lot quiter due to tread design and wear very very evenly and holds up to extreme heat cycles very very well great for track, auto-x and daily has steel reinforced sidewalls

falken beta and ziex. decent entry level tires. similar compound used as the st-115 and sports but not as grippy and does not have the stiff steel reinforced side walls

-bridgestone s-03 - one of the best OE tires period.

hope this helps

All I can tell you is that my xA came with Bridgestone Potenzas and when I switched to the Falken Ziex ZE-512, I noticed big improvements. They grip better in all conditions, they ride smoother, and yes, they are quieter. That was actually the very first thing I noticed about them because I had them put on the car on a sunny, dry day. IMHO, you can't go wrong with them.

Another tire to look into is the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport. Very quiet tire and grippy. Also wears very well. I had them on my current car until I took em off to put the stock wheels back on. I got them for free from a sponsor but they are priced nicely too.
